Philips DVP3150V HiFi DVD/VCR Combo February 25, 2008 This unit was bought at a great price. It arrived in its original factory carton and everything I needed for a fast hookup was in the box. I have been using it for a month and am completely satisfied. While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive unit, it work just fine for our needs.
I used to think Philips was good quality November 18, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Based on my personal experience with the Philips DVP 3150V: I bought this for my parents so they could view DVD video sent to them from our family from the East coast. The DVDs that they received were produced on excellent video equipment but did not play on the DVD player despite all of the manual's "Hoorah." I could play the DVDs on my computer so I went out and bought seven different types of DVD+R and DVD-R media. None of them worked. Simple 30 minute DVDs didn't work at all; NONE. I immediately brought them my Daewoo which proceeded to play every DVD and is six years older than the Philips. I won't knock the play of pre-recorded and regular rental DVDs for that it's excellent but if you want to watch DVD videos made by family and friends from all over the globe, some in hostile areas, I'm convinced, this is not the VCR/DVD Player to go with. It's garbage and the mere fact it doesn't play our family/friends movies means that whatever Philips wrote on the box to sell it can't always be believed. The remote, well, I won't even comment about that. This is something that would be great for a classroom but it doesn't belong in a living room during a holiday when it fails to play family made DVD videos. The only reason it gets a "one star" rating is because amazon's system won't let me grade that low. Emotions are what fuel our happiness and right now, I ain't very happy. Skip this one, look at an eight year old Daewoo. Disclaimer: Once again, this is based on my personal experience with the Philips DVP 3150V.
Ghost in the machine November 6, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This unit is horrible. It has a mind of it's own. It never would tape a show. (Yes, I had everything set up correctly). It won't play a DVD unless there's also a tape in the machine. When you try to play a VHS tape, it will only play for 15 seconds and then the machine turns itself off. The entire unit just shuts off! Save your money and get something else!!
No Problem - Works Great September 1, 2007 I purchased this item to use for my Video Editing needs. I ended up using in on my 65' HDTV because my VCR/DVD Recorder started to act like a cheap garage sale VCR/DVD player. I have not experienced any problems with this Philips device as far as playing VCRs or DVD. It was simple to hook up.
Does exactly what I want! July 4, 2007 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Before buying this one, I actually first bought a cheaper DVD/VCR combo. But found that one only has playback capability. No recording, no TV tuner. Returned it because I want a full functioning VCR. There are two Philips models that I seriously considered: Philips DVP3150V and DVP3340V. They are same price, but I found again that DVP3340V has no TV tuner! Look around you will be surprised how many VCR/DVD players do not come with a TV tuner today! This is an important fuction of a VCR, why cut it? just to save manufacturing cost??!!! I am glad that the DVP3150V has everything. All I need for a low price. You name it, VHS playback, DVD+R/DVD-R readability, TV tuner/recording...These are what matters for a VCR/DVD combo. The picture quality of this VCR is good. This Philips serves your basic A/V needs at a really small fraction of the cost those video enthusiastics pay!
