Amazon.com Review
NCAA Football 2002 takes the same graphics, gameplay, and physics engines as Madden 2002 and adds the unmistakable feel of college football. The game plays exactly like Madden with slight improvements to the already strong graphics. You can choose from 144 NCAA teams (117 Division 1-A and 27 Division 1-AA) and compete in one of the 26 postseason bowl games, complete with corporate sponsors (FedEx Orange Bowl). Stat junkies are sure to love this game; in addition to the usual performance stats, it keeps track of AP top 25, coach's top 25, BCS rankings, All-American awards, and more.

As mentioned earlier, the gameplay is identical to Madden's. It has a high degree of realism that purists will enjoy, but fans of faster, arcade-style games might not care for. This is one of the few games that uses every button on the PlayStation2 controller--casual gamers might be intimidated by the complex controls. Also like Madden, there are a number of unstoppable plays that can nullify any defense. From a technical standpoint, this game doesn't offer enough improvements to warrant its purchase if you already own Madden. However, if you don't own Madden or love college football, this is the game to buy. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:

  • Sharp presentation
  • Extremely realistic gameplay
  • A deluge of statistics to track
Cons:
  • Complex controls
  • A few cheap, unstoppable plays
  • Too slow for fans of arcade sports games

4 out of 5 stars Givin' it the old college try!   March 27, 2003

Dynasty Mode is excellent, with a good diverse schedule of both creampuffs and tough conference foes, and a lotta fun with off-season recruiting - don't assume you're always going to get the best players, even if you've just won your third straight national championship! One major gripe - it seems that if you play a certain opponent every year (I'm at the helm of Michigan, and this always happens to me against Purdue), at some point the game will freeze and you will either have to play it again or just bite the bullet, hit simulate, and move on to the next week.

If you are a college football fan. then this is the game for you. The graphics are extremely awesome. The season mode is fun. The playcalling is easy. It is truly the best NCAA football game out there.

5 out of 5 stars Now this is Football!!!   August 2, 2002

Quite possibly the greatest football game ever made. This game resembles Madden 2002 a great deal. The feel of the game is so smooth. The game very realistic. The graphics are incredible. Just a great football game. So much to do in this game. You can play every game of the season. Yo u can edit current players not just created ones. That is awesome. Not sure if you can change the schedule or not but who cares. You play any game you want in the season. Its like watching a game on tv. The graphics top notch. You can select from different uniform schemes whic his cool. YOu can create your on school too. Awesome. The real fun is playing the game itself. Its very smooth. Like in football your not guaranteed a 90 yard run every running play or passing play. You have to be quick but its a lot of fun. This is just a great game.

5 out of 5 stars Cool Game   July 30, 2002

This is a cool game for those of you who love college football. You will have fun playing the option, dodging DE's along the way. The dynasty mode is the best and most in-depth to date of its kind. Plan recruiting visits, and land the top prospects. Once the game becomes too easy, take over a team that is not as stellar, and see if you can get them to the top.
