Nintendo Wii October 15, 2008 if your wondering which system to buy your kid...well, you should try asking them? hahaha, really though i bought this for my 3 1/2 year old daughter after i found out how much she had fun playing it at her mom's friend's house. Her mom told me she was able to pick it up and play...i dont know if my daughter is a "baby einstein" but i think this is a perfect toy for a kid
Almost... wait for wii2 October 14, 2008 This is a great system. I have owned it for a couple years now. The controllers have never had a problem (and they have been through considerable abuse). My only reason for giving it a 4/5 is that it isn't HD. Come on! they should have at least given consumers the option to have true HD picture quality. As an older gamer (over 21...) I have been spoiled by the graphics of PC and Xbox 360 games. The Wii is not just slightly worse either. There are times I have trouble reading the numbers or letters on the screen because of the low resolution. It drives me crazy! It is particularly irritating because everything else about it is so awesome! The menus are intuitive and the controllers are an epic step forward for gaming. I own both the Xbox 360 and the Wii. I have played several games for both systems (simpsons, call of duty, need for speed) and in all three instances I prefer the Xbox versions of the games. I can honestly say it is much more fun to play the Wii games because of the level of interactivity, but all of the games are much 'lighter' adaptations for the Wii. Since the Wii doesn't read discs with as much information on them, the games end up resembling the Xbox versions, but with many extras trimmed off. By this I mean story lines are gone, options are absent, and the levels/worlds/stages are always lacking details.
Bottom line: Wii is great for simple games (brain age, wii sports, etc. but if you are into games like forza, call of duty, etc. you best stick with another console.
Wii console October 12, 2008 I bought this console 6 days ago and I am really exited about it, along with two games to start playing with it, I already know system configurations and how this console works overall, I will focus my review on only the limitations I could notice so far:
*Channel switching: If you are reviewing games on the Wii Shop channel, you probably want to see a video review of the games you are interested in, you will have to go back to Home Menu and enter the Nintendo Channel (which is free for download). So switching back and forth from channels is slow, and you can't have more than one channel open (the one you are in). Including Wii games (which it is a channel itself) you can't suspend your games to quick check the weather update (for example), only games you can do that is on NES games which is obvious as it is the only way to save your progress.
*Wii Shop channel and Everybody's votes channel availability): If you live in a country currently not supported for these channels, prepare yourself for major disappointment. Even wii points card are for sell in my country, I must set the Wii in USA in order to enjoy all benefits of wii shop.
*Wi-Fi reach: I find this console to have a short range of wireless reception signal, my laptop is very close to where I have the console right now and it gets the wireless-g signal from my wireless router upstairs very good, I get a lot of connection problems with my Wii, sadly I can't help it because I can't move the TV from its current location, only solution is to move the router closer to the Wii, which I will try anytime soon.
Other than that, I am really exited about my shop and plan to buy more games and more controls as I become able to afford it.
Fun console but limited appeal to serious gamers October 8, 2008 I consider myself a semi-hardcore gamer and own all the major consoles and play PC games as well. I bought a Wii soon after it came out but to be honest, although it's got some fun games (and my two-year-old loves the crude GT Pro game), overall it has limited appeal to serious gamers. If you go nuts over "cute" titles like Wii Fit and Mario, you won't be disappointed by the Wii. I use it occasionally, because I find the games not cool enough for 2008. (No, I'm not selling mine...)
the best game console ever October 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think this is the best game console ever. I have had others in the past but none measure up to the Wii. The controls are easy to use and the games are alot of fun. It is one of the few game consoles that does not turn players into couch potatoes. :)
