Same Great Madden, But A Little Difficult To Pick Up For Those New To The Wii September 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Going back to Madden 1997 on the Super Nintendo system, I have purchased and enjoyed every single installment of the Madden Football series. The main two reasons I enjoyed this series so much were its featuring of "real" players, as well as the congruence of the controls from system to system and game to game. Whether on the SNES, Nintendo '64, or Gamecube, the button configuration was laid out basically the same, ingraining that pattern in your head for years and years.
With Madden '09, however, I had a bit of difficulty at first adapting to the new controller scheme (Wii remote and nunchuk). I found myself moving the Wii-mote around too much, causing crazy things to happen, and throwing to the wrong receiver because I was so used to "A", "B" or "X" "Y" buttons instead of a control pad. Plus, the fact that two hands are constantly in use (at least more than other systems) means that the level of difficulty is ratcheted up even further.
Now, don't get me wrong...Madden '09 is still a tremendously fun game (even if my more Wii-experienced younger brother beats me at every game!), not having lost anything from previous installments and gaining a Party Mode (something the Madden franchise severely lacked). The only potentially frustrating aspect of your Madden '09 experience (if you don't want to play in the too-easy All-Play mode) will be learning an entirely new set of controls. Once you have those picked up, though, you will eventually get back in the swing of things!
Fun but needs work September 2, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'll get this out of the way quick, If you own a Ps3 or xbox360, might as well pass this one up. The GFX look worse than a XBOX. Nothing improved upon the game what so ever since those releases.
The Aduio/commentary is very outdated, the NFL passed a new rule, that all facemask penalties are auto 15 yards, But Madden still rambles on about how there is a 5 yard penalty and a 15 yard one, the game clearly has it right at 15yards, but the old audio is still present.
Controlls are hit or miss, Trien to intercept usualy causes the player to tackle, causing a penalty. Dropping back to Pass can be problematic, some times instead of selecting a different reciever the QB jumps around, usualy resulting in a sack. Stiff arms seem to not work very well, even when the game says it was executed correctly.
EA support will not acknolwedge a bug with the game, Hiting A instead of doing the celebration dance can freeze the game, EA's responce is that the disc is either damaged or dirty, this is not the case. At other parts of the game, the game drasticly slows down, usualy during the off-season in franchise mode. Also sometimes the game calls an audible, See it mostly on field goals and some defensive plays, when the huttle breaks and every one lines up, they will switch to a different play even though you haven't moved the remote nor touched any buttons, on field goals it's annoying cause it results in using a timeout.
I'm sorry but the GFX is really crap, I had last years madden for PC, and the GFX card in that PC is about 7 years old. The GFX were still better than what we get on the Wii, and I'll say the Wii is far more capable of having better GFX, EA is being lazy, basicly porting the ps2/xbox version.
The Rosters are sorely outdated, Players that were traded months before the game released are still on thier original teams. Some aren't even on team even though they were clearly on that team before training camp...
The game is still fun, as i am getting used to the controlls more, still wish 2ksports was able to make games, as EA has no competition in reguards to the exclusive liecense from the NFL. EA now just shovels very little invovation with the same old game.
Although my review is rated possative, these are glaring issues that need to be addressed.
Worth the investment September 2, 2008 Unlike some other sports games on the Wii, Madden '09 uses the Wii remote and Nunchuck beautifully for its game controls. While I do not personally use the All Play feature, this play style seems to be very appealing to my non-Madden friends. The online play is solid, and the new 5-on-5 game play is addictive.
As a hardcore Madden gamer, I realize that this is the Wii version of the game rather than XBox 360 or PS3. However, I wish that some of the graphics geared towards a younger audience could be de-selected, particularly the annoying celebrations screen after a TD and the fact that the referees are Mii characters. But all things told, these are just nitpicks at a solid game. Definitely worth the upgrade from Madden '08.
A great game for the wii September 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Madden O9, compared to the other madden games it is alot better. Some people will say working the buttens is to hard but once you get the hang of it, its not hard at all. The franchise mode is still very fun plus the off-season is very fun. You can also design your own wide reciever routes and flay against people online. Overall, a very fun game if you know how to work the buttons.

PS2 PORT!!! August 30, 2008 PS2 Port with motion controls.. EA has watered down this game to be kiddy friendly. The best feature I like about this game, You can call your own shoots.
The graphics are ps2 looking, EA is like other third party developers..They really have no interest in the wii, Only the high powered consoles (360/PS3).
The reason I say that is, Just about every third party game that comes out on the wii is low quality and not worth the price..And yes! Graphics does play a major role in most games (Sports)...How come the 360/PS3 has all the heavy hitters and the wii don't?
Shame on EA!
