For the Persnickety Player Who Needs a Challenge May 27, 2008 Most of the other reviews here have given this game a fair shake-down. Yes, the storyline is cheesy, the characters are cutesy, the game-play is slow, and the controls take a lot of practice, BUT, all of this aside, and perhaps even partially because of these quirks, this game still gets 5 stars in my book for the seemingly endless challenge it provides. This is probably the most addicting game I have ever played (rivaled only by Pokemon). I have no idea how many hours I have put into this thing, but it has become a deeply entrenched desire of mine to finish what I started! I actually feel quite accomplished to have made it as far as I have; I have been playing this game on and off for about a year now and I am probably only 65% through it. The day I beat the darn thing, I'm throwing a party!
Starting the game is tedious. You will be terrible at it. Putting will be absolutely, unreasonably confounding. The controls will seem clunky. But for some reason, at least if you are anything like me, you will just keep playing and playing and playing this game and slowly, you will actually start to improve. Of course, as you improve, so will your opponents, so the intense challenge will continue, but at least you will know what you are doing more. Consistently, it takes many attempts to beat the computer opponents, but this makes every win and gain that much more satisfying. Plus, once you get playing with friends in multi-player mode, they will actually look at you in awe, for being able to putt accurately, chip the ball in now and again, and make so much bonus money with each shot! If you're a bit competitive, this makes all the practice worth it.
Bottom line? If you are exceedingly patient, like a serious and seemingly endless challenge, enjoy indulging in endearingly cheesy story-lines, like shopping for clothes and items, and enjoy a bit of tedium, then this game is for you. If you are not possessed of such a particular demeanor, you might be better served to look for a different game, as this one will probably be incredibly frustrating for you.
Great game, but why not buy the sequal? April 2, 2008 I gave this game 3 stars not because this is a bad game, but because you should buy a different game!
It's a great golf game. Currently Super Swing golf is the best golf series for the wii. I'm not a real golfer, and nor is my wife. For some reason, her favorite games are golf games. I don't understand it either, but I know that she loves this game.
But, don't buy this game. Super Swing Golf Season 2 has all the courses from this game and 2 more courses. This game costs $49.99 on Amazon. Super Swing Golf: Season 2 costs $39.99 from Amazon. You do the math. Super Swing Golf: Season 2 also lets you choose "lucky" clubs. This makes the game a ton easier for beginners.
Pros: -fun golf game! Slightly wacky, but the golf itself is very consistent and fun. -good motion controls without overdoing it
Cons: -2nd game has all this and more -2nd game starts you with "lucky" clubs that make the game easier when you start out (have to choose them but they're there) -"risky" costumes. If I want t&a, I'll buy leisure suit larry. Why does this game need this? I probably will buy "We Love Golf" when it comes out just to have a game I can let my kids play!
More fun with the button controls January 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love golf video games, so when I bought my Wii I had to pick this one up.
At first I didn't like it, because the arm motion you need to use with your Wii remote does not even come close to what a real golf swing should feel like. In fact, I went to the driving range after a few times of playing this and it messed up my actual swing because I was trying to swing like I was playing this game! I also found it hard to beat the CPU opponents using the motion swing.
Then, I switched to the button swing, and I found this game to be much more enjoyable. It's still challenging because the CPU opponents are tough to beat, but that it what gives this game replay value. When you use the button swing, this game is similar to Hot Shots Golf.
If you are looking for a Golf Sim that will help your actual golf game, look elsewhere. But if you are just looking for a fun game with lots of characters and items to unlock, you'll be happy. It's just too bad they couldn't work out the mechanics of the motion swing.
Very frustrating - especially for a lefty. December 16, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
In short, this game is horrible. I'm left handed and even though you can set the game up to swing as a "L" or "R" handed person, your toon always swings as if he/she is right handed. ?? How hard would it have been for the programmers to actually program a left handed toon? Give me a break.
Aside from a complete disregard for left handed people, I found the swing mechanics themselves to also be terrible. Your backswing determines the power of the swing, but it's very hard to achieve a 100% swing. You end up holding your remote in a backswing position and moving the remote in all different directions trying to get the power meter all the way to 100% before starting your forward swing. It's not as simple as imitating a regular golf swing. Not even close. I'm going to try to play using buttons rather than swinging the remote before I totally give up on this game, but I'd definately reccommend playing a friends, or renting before shelling out the cash for this title.
Good, better online. December 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good game but I still perfer it on it's online version, Albatross18 or Pangya. (albatross18.com/season2) It's alot more fun online because you can be in guilds, and interact with people all around the world. But this game has a "small" story around it and is semi-difficult. Sometimes the controls mess up and everything goes wako, but other times it's a ton of fun to play, and I could play forever.
