Amazon.com The Star Wars saga will continue in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

You are Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice View larger. | Use the force to disable your enemies View larger. | Artwork of the Jedi "Maris" View larger. | As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time: Digital Molecular Matter (DMM), by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. Paired with the powerful Havok Physics system. DMM incorporates the physical properties of anything in the environment so that everything reacts exactly like it should - wood breaks like wood, glass shatters like glass, plants on the planet Felucia bend like plants on the planet Felucia would, and more. Meanwhile, as a revolutionary behavioral-simulation engine, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behavior on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time.
Game Features:- During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
- Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers - Force push, grip, repulse and lightning - throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
- Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible:
- The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls.
- The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb.
- In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar face s from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader.
- Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk and the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility.
- The Force Unleashed debuts Digital Molecular Matter from Pixelux and euphoria behavioral simulation from NaturalMotion Ltd.
- LucasArts is preparing an unprecedented promotional effort around the launch of The Force Unleashed, encompassing a full line of toys and game-based action figures from Hasbro, as well as a full publishing program from Dark Horse, Del Rey and Palace Press.

just another darth vader story October 12, 2008 well i think this game is good, but not the best ending. they couldve called it another darth vader story or the outcast of the sith. you are darth vaders little pet or slave, whos captured and taught by him. you hunt down his enemies, and kill them.then you are betrayed and form the rebel alliance, and they are near death at the end.and i think that you should be able to choose your on destiny, like in knights of the old republic. the previews are better than the actual game, but i still liked it. you can customize your on lightsaber, but you must find saber hilts and crystals hidden in every level. your allies dont ever fight with you, and you are forced to fight massive enemies alone which is fun considering the awesome finishing moves. the rancors move is awesome, when you leave a scar down his back. back to the ending part. in the end, you are wounded when the emperor slams your on starfighter (there are no great star chases like other games have) into you and you are rebuilt into a cyborg just like vader, and the emperor has plans to betray you again. all in all good, but not great.
Despite some flaws, Force Unleashed delivers October 3, 2008 The eagerly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is finally here, and Star Wars fans will find plenty to admire and enjoy here. Others however may find a certain degree of disappointment to be found with Force Unleashed thanks to some noticeable flaws and glitches (especially here on the PS2), but if one overlooks these, a good time is to be had. Featuring one of the best and most compelling stories you may ever find in a video game period, Force Unleashed also features some thrilling and jaw dropping moments that will make even the smallest Star Wars fan squeal with joy. You play as Starkiller, the secret apprentice to Darth Vader, and you are charged with eliminating the last remaining Jedi in the universe. Interacting with your pilot Juno Eclipse and a droid named PROXY, Force Unleashed also features some compelling and inventive characters to boot; so much so that you'll actually be caring about what happens to them as the game progresses. As said before, Force Unleashed is loaded with thrilling moments, but a good amount of these moments are few and far between, and some technical and gameplay glitches really hurt the game as well. Including times when the camera seems to want to work against you, the targeting system is frustrating in nearly every sense of the word. Force Unleashed also comes off at times as being too epic in scope to fit the final product of what you're playing; it just feels as if something is missing here that shouldn't. Still though, the game looks good for a late in life PS2 game, the music is superb, and the art design is great as well. All in all, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed isn't a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but despite it's flaws, the game delivers the goods that Star Wars fans will be looking for, and it is definitely worth your time and attention.
Excellent, With Only Few Short-Comings September 28, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is fantastic. The breakdown:
Pros: 1. Great graphics 2. There are lots of Force Powers 3. Leveling up Force Powers increase the "wow" factor 4. Addicting gameplay 5. You get to keep your Force Powers after you beat the game (let the credits play through) 6. Good AI - for example, when you charge up Maelstrom, the stormtroopers run away 7. Finishing moves are unique 8. Saber locks and Force Power locks are the knuckle-whiteners
Cons: 1. The sound quality is good, but some sounds are bad (the main character's footsteps on metal comes to mind) 2. No multiplayer (not even head-to-head) 3. Short game - can be beaten in around 10 hours or so 4. Cinematics take away a little bit of the satisfaction (you'll know what I mean when you see it) 5. Some of the "extra goodies" are a waste of space
Some details on the Cons:
The saber customization is good only for the Combat Crystals - the Color Crystals and Saber Hilts are just fluff. Sometimes, though, it is nice to change the color of your saber on-the-fly.
The custom customization is essentially canned - you cannot choose your tunic, pants, boots... Only preset clothes sets.
The Extras also seem superfluous. Particularly the Jedi Holocrons - unlocking art for viewing on the ship. Plays no purpose - that could have been part of the strategy guide.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The action is very fast so you can sometimes loose track of what's happening and find yourself holding L2 until you get your bearings back again. I particularly like the saber locks (lots of sparks) and Force Power locks - the camera zooms in and you get to see the struggle up close. Although there are a lot of button combinations, almost no matter what buttons you press you'll do something neat.
Unlocking new Force Powers as you complete levels is great. Each new Force Power you unlock is already at level 1 so you can start using it immediately. Two-handed lightning ("Sith Scorch", I believe) is particularly fun to use after you herd the enemies into a small group!
The physics is a pretty realistic addition, and the euphoria adds nice touches too. The frame rate drops significantly when the physics are high and there are lots of particles. For the aging PS2, though, the game runs quite well. I didn't experience any freezes or lockups, but there was only ONE occasion when I couldn't proceed because a jet-packed stormtrooper was missing (might have moved through a closed and locked door - a bug). If that happens, save your game immediately and select "Exit Game" from the menu. You'll have to start the same level over again, but all Force Powers and experience points stay.
I suggest that you don't bother hyping yourself up by looking at message forums and videos from E3 and speculation from other people. Don't do any research on the game you're waiting for. Just get it and be surprised (so you can't be disappointed).
Definitely worth $40. Go out and buy it!
Great Game! September 26, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest Star Wars video games of all time! Not only are the force powers awsome, it has a very interesting storyline. Some force powers you can use are repulse, force lightning, choke, and more! You get to fight Jedi, Stormtroopers, bounty hunters, and other foes in the game. Not to mention you get to see the birth of the Rebel Alliance! The game was short, but worth playing! I enjoyed the game very much, and if you are a Star Wars fan this game is probably for you!
LucasArts Unleashes Another Winner September 26, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
As a casual gamer, I found this game outstanding. Although not flawless, it delivers a great storyline, top notch graphics, excellent combat dynamics, and remarkable playability. The combat revolves almost solely around your Force powers-- you can throw ANYthing at an enemy, distant choke holds, hurl devastating lightning, impale enemies on your lightsaber, this is some seriously cool stuff!! There is a gliche here and there; once and a while during a boss battle, if you get cornered, the camera may get confused, and you'll find yourself turned around, and I've had the character--not the game-- freeze up once or twice, but when I did a restart, everything was saved. I can live with that. All in all, a great, great game. If you love the Star Wars Mythos, and still play on a PS2, buy this-- at $39.98, it's a real bargain. Although I suspect the XBOX, or PS3 version is even better.
