Editorial Review Grand Theft Auto is back--and the popular mission-based driving game is nastier than ever! Grand Theft Auto 2 plays much like its predecessor, and that is not necessarily a good thing. The graphics in the original were terrible, and GTA 2 does little to amend this deficiency. The game camera looks straight down on the action, making it difficult to judge relative heights. The grainy game objects don't help matters much, either. Plus, the game's missions mainly consist of fetching things for crime lords, with a few assassination missions thrown in every so often. Still, Grand Theft Auto 2 is a terrific game to boot up for 30 minutes if you want to blow off some steam. You don't necessarily have to take on any missions. Instead, you can brainlessly roam around the enormous city environments performing random acts of violence. (However, we don't recommend that you try this at home!). Few games of any type offer this sort of reckless, open-ended mayhem. Police chases are wilder than ever thanks to new units with improved interception techniques. New weapons also add some much-needed variety to the carnage that players are bound to create. If you never played the original, skip it and pick up this version. You might also consider getting some therapy, if time permits. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: - Artificial intelligence is somewhat improved
- Controls are a little better than the original
Cons: - Few gameplay improvements from the original
- Less than impressive graphics
- Gameplay suffers from slowdown

What is this crap? March 20, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this game and I have to say that this is a game worth NOT buying because I have been a gamer all my life and I have never turned off a video game within a minute of playing time.
1. Controls are horrible.
2. Who cares that the charecter can burp and fart
3.The graphics are ridicuous for a playstion one system. These are the kind of graphics that you would find on the the first video game systems ex: Atari, NES or game boy pocket. If you want a game that you would like buy any of the GTA games on the playstion 2 system. Dont buy this game.
Who the...? What the...? Are you kidding with this? March 3, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Never before in my gaming experience have I been turned off from a game in the first minute of game play.
The biggest pro in this game is the fact that you can fart and burp and that, my friends, is a sad, sad thing indeed.
The programmers could have saved the gaming community the misery and not released this albatross at all. Heck, I probably would have paid them the 5 bucks I bought it for not to put it on the market and it would have been a win-win for everyone.
I love GTA. It's a great game, but why does the '88 NES Super Mario Bros. have superior graphics to a PS1 game from 1999. It defies rational explanation and this game defies all rationality itself.
I am ashamed to call this a GTA game or even a product from Rockstar.
Do you really call this a classic ?-i don`t January 7, 2006 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is good but...no its not great. Some GTA Fanboys/fan girls call this "a classic" or the "Greatest PS1 game"-My opinion HELL NO!!
It was made for PS1 in 1999-`99 was one PS1`s final years yet they had a 2D game made!?-Its the same as GTA1 !!-GTA1 was acceptable back in 1997-i let that one off.
If this game were to be accepted it should have been made for The Super Nintendo back in 1992 !! at least there it would have been a true classic!-even though it would be killed with Controversy.
Driver 1 and Driver 2 KILL this game there is no need for Krap like this game. There are good GTA games on PS2/XB/PC called GTA III,Vice City and San Andreas along with GTA/Driver Clones..
I gave it a 2* for it radio and funniness..
But i don`t reccomend it if you stiil play PS1 get Driver 2,But most PS1 players are now PS2/XBox or GameCube gamers so get GTAIII,VC,SA or even DRIV3R.
I`m not bashing, it is not even an old game.
I would recommend GTA2 on GameBoy:Color though not PS1.!
Last 2D GTA September 8, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Grand Theft Auto 2 - Circa 1999
GOOD: - A better version of the original - Sort of fun and different in it's own way
BAD: - Really dated graphics, even for its day - Gameplay is pretty old and controls can be tough for some
WILL IT FIT YOUR TASTE: - A Top-down run and gun game where you steal cars, kill people, and live a life of crime
GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO: - Grand Theft Auto - Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 - The legend of Zelda: A link to the past (but a lot more urban and violent) ADDITIONAL NOTES: - There is a version of this game for Dreamcast, with slightly better graphics - There is a version for this game for the PC
The best gta besides vice city!!!!!! January 8, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Although this is quite an old game now, it doesn,t stop me from playing it every day!!!! the graphics are a little cheesey, but the gameplay is great!!!! the missions are good and when your not working for the gangs, you can walk around the city, farting, burping shooting people, running them over, stealing a taxi and when you stop at the pavement, people shout "taxi" and get in your cab!!! And your money keeps piling up as you drive them around the city!!! i cant write more as my brother wants me two get off the computer!!! but in conclusion, and without a moment to spare, get this game if you are a GTA fan!!!! if not buy it anyway fantastic
