4 out of 5 stars MOSTLY GOOD   June 5, 2006

I like this interactive game quite a bit. Love that you have to swing a club.
So far though the controller seems a little inaccurate.
I intentionally make inside-out slice swings and it says it is a perfect swing. And this is in Pro mode. Sometimes the ball goes straight when I make intentional crazy swings.
Then when I know I made a good swing, sometimes the shot goes off line and says I made bad contact. I'll have to experiment more on this.
You can't line up your putts so you have to trust the game that the putting line is accurate.
Even with these flaws, I still like the game a lot.

Real World Golf is a must have for any gamer/golfer. I have a feeling there are alot of us out there so, this game should sell quite well. The whole point of this game is to give you the feeling of actually playing golf and, it works. The graphics and sound are pretty much first generation quality but, who cares when you're swinging a golf club inside your house. The game comes with a small plastic golf club but, you can use any club you have. The Ingenuity of this game is better than any other. The gametrack controller that comes with the game which hooks up via your USB port is one of the most creative controlers I've ever seen along with The Guitar Hero controller. When you pull back to swing the character on the screen mimics your movements with no delay. When you swing foward the graphics aren't as fluid but, you should be looking down anyways like you would if you were really golfing. If you are wealthy, live in California and, can go golfing anytime you want because, money and working aren't issues then just go golfing and, don't bother with this game. For the rest of us who work during the day and, cant afford green fees on a daily basis this game is the next best thing to hitting the links.

4 out of 5 stars A great idea, but room for improvement   April 19, 2006

This is a fun game. I read one bad review and several good reviews before I bought it. The playability is great, the graphics are below average, and the realism (as it pertains to golf in the real world) is average.

A few things that golfers looking at this game should be aware of:
1) A good swing in real life will translate to a good swing in the game. A bad swing in real life will translate to a bad swing in the game (except putting)
2) The courses are VERY long. If you're playing with the amateur clubs (which trade distance for forgiveness) you can't reach the green in 2 on most par 4s and can't reach it in 3 on most par 5s. There's a 259-yard par 3 on the 5th course. WTH is up with that?!
3) The only time the lie of the ball factors into the swing is when it prevents you from making good contact with the ball. A ball on a slope doesn't hook or slice the way it would in real life, and a ball hit from the tall grass still lands and spins the way it would if it were hit from the fairway
4) It looks like they completely gave up on programming for the putting. You can't line up your putt. It does it for you and just tells you how hard to hit the ball. The farther away you are the less forgiving it is about the amount of force you swing with (which is somewhat realistic) *BUT* when you putt, it doesn't matter if you swing straight. You can twist your hands, yank it off to the left or right or whatever you want and the putt still goes straight. I would've liked to see a little more realism there.
5) Trying to close the club face to punch a shot or open it to get a ball up in the air quickly do not work. The game automatically assumes that closed face=hook and open face=slice, no matter how you're holding your hands when you swing. Obviously the game can't tell what your stance is like, but it'd be nice if it recognized that you were holding your hands in front of the ball and leading through the shot.
6) It would also be nice if they had a better picture of the club face on the screen. It takes into account if you have the face open or closed, but there's no real way to tell if you have it straight. Especially with the woods, which are completely black on the screen, so you have to kinda look at the shape of it to see if it's squared or not. You also can't see if you're lining up the ball on the toe or heel of the club because the club face completely blocks the ball. It'd be nice if they showed a little box with an overhead shot (or a player's-eye view) of how the club was next to the ball on address.

The manual says there's supposed to be a display showing the lie of the ball on the screen before you hit it, but there's not one there. I don't know what's up with that.

Overall I'm glad I got it so far. It's fun to play. It's not much of a training tool, but I think it does make for a good game.

One caveat for big guys:
The gloves are a little small on my hands. Because of the location where the wires attach, the game thinks I'm not holding the club correctly when I use my normal grip (left index and right pinky interlocked). I can't get off a straight shot because of that, and I have to interlock all my fingers to make it think I'm holding the club correctly.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely awesome   April 16, 2006

Just amazing. Forget Tiger Woods...this is the real deal!

You just swing the mini-club to play. Nothing comes close to this for realism...no more joysticks they say and they're right. You can add spin, hook and slice the ball all just by adjusting your swing.

Absolutely the best golf game ever made. The Gametrak controller is very cool - weird but cool. Very accurate and you don't notice it's there once you're playing.

Only criticism is that the graphics aren't quite as good as Tiger Woods, but they're pretty close and certainly good enough considering how much more fun the game is.
