 Surprisingly dissapointing for a logitech July 19, 2008
I admit I bought this without researching, as I have always been impressed with Logitech products for both the PC and PS2. However I am very unimpressed in the seemingly intentional hindrances they have put into this controller.
First the good. I have had no problems playing PS2 and PS3 games the last few days with it. So I don't know where people are getting these interface issues, but the PS3 has always had problems with backwards compatibility for some reason.
Now the negative: This controller is 2.4ghz. Not Bluetooth. Now, I am looking around and I don't see any Bluetooth non-Sony branded controllers, so maybe Sony is not releasing the technology to interface with the PS3 or something however it should be advertised more. Once again, I have always trusted Logitech and bought this without looking it up but I am very disappointed that I have to plug an adapter into my PS3 just to get this controller to interface. It has Bluetooth for that reason, leave the USB's for my external hard-drives.
Secondly, it isn't rechargeable. I couldn't believe it when I opened the package and AA batteries fell out. Why would they leave out the ability to recharge without going to the store and buying batteries. If I wanted an ongoing cost like that I would have bought an off brand. I don't consider Logitech some third name off brand.
Thirdly, the L2 R2 buttons are nicely rounded up to make them more trigger like. However they require a lot of pressure to push down. Something that takes some getting used to and is still annoying when playing fighting games and FPS's where response is critical.
I don't know why you would deliberately leave out recharging. Fool me into thinking I didn't need to take up a USB slot. And make the buttons more awkward to use.
This controller was the same price as the original six axis Sony when I purchased. Just get another Sony.
 Makes a good cheap second controller- not a true replacement June 21, 2008
In many ways I like this controller much better than the sixaxis controller that came with my PS3.
1.)Although you have to buy replacement batteries when they die (or use rechargeables of your own) the battery life is excellent. This means if you forgot to charge your sixaxis controller and its dead, this one will still be good (first batteries lasted me 5 months.)
2.)It also fits my hands better and is much more comfortable for long game sessions. Since your hands are shaped differently from mine that might not mean anything to you. If you find the original sixaxis very comfortable, then you probably won't find this one more so. If you've always found the xbox360 controllers to be more comfortable though, this one is contoured more along those lines and will probably work better for you.
3.)The analog sticks seem more responsive and more accurate especially for use in 3d shooters and some platformers. This only really means a heck of a lot if you play 3d shooters though. If you don't then you might see this increased responsiveness and accuracy as twitchyness as the controller responds more accurately to much smaller movements.
4.) The controller works with gametap and your pc without any software or settings manipulation. Just plug it in and it works. For people who play lots of old games on gametap, or through other means, on their PC this is pretty great.
Now for the not-so-great:
1.) No sixaxis. Not that big of a deal in most games but it makes it useless for a lot of them since you'd have to stop and switch controllers in the middle of play.
2.) PS3 does not always seem to recognize the controller for some tasks. System updates and other functions don't always seem to recognize the controller. It's odd and probably has to do with it being USB wireless and not bluetooth. Sometimes causes issues in bluray menus, ps2 games, and system updates.
3.) Doesn't feel the same as the classic sixaxis and ps2 controller. For me this is a great thing, but for a lot of people it makes it feel awkward. I prefer this style, but you might not.
Bottom line:
The flaws and annoyances make this a terrible primary controller, but the inexpensive price point (often MUCH less than MSRP, I got it for 19.95), the ability to be left off the charging cable and still be ready to go a month later, and the overall quality make it a great backup. I use mine for 3d shooters and as a second controller for when friends come over. I actually use it much more frequently to play games on gametap though so it's hooked up to my HTPC most of the time. It can be quickly swapped back and forth though (unlike bluetooth devices which must be relinked), so this is not a problem. All in all, it's a good controller but it's not the best controller for the PS3. If the price is right, buy it as a backup.
same great Logitech feel, but... March 27, 2008
I loved my PS2 wireless Logitech gamepad so much, that I got one for my PC as well. It was an easy purchase when I picked up a PS3 to go with the Logitech controller as I figured I would feel right at home with the new gamepad.
I really like the ergonomics, the feel, the weight and the responsiveness of the PS3 Logitech gamepad. I find it to be much more comfortable than Sony's sixaxis controller. But, the sixaxis has a few new features that I find myself stunned that Logitech didn't include them in their PS3 gamepad. The first being the motion sensing, which I personally can live without, but it still would have been a nice inclusion. The second is nearly a deal breaker, as Logitech did not include the Playstation button witch is used to interact with the PS3 system. Logitech also uses a USB interface which some may have a problem with.
I have relegated my Logitech controller to be used as a second controller instead of my primary controller because of the aforementioned issues. It's still nice, but it isn't the complete product it should have been.
A Truly Mixed Bag March 13, 2008

I must state ahead of time that I'm not a fan of the official Sony PS3 controller as I find it to be too light in my hands. I'm always on the lookout for a second controller that feels right. This Logitech controller is a mixed bag of good and bad. First, the good. The controller is a little heavier than the standard pad, and feels really good in your hands. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's more solid, but it's definitely heavier and the ergonomics are nice. The analog sticks are far superior to the standard pad, as they don't give as easily. Aside from this, however, the cons war outweigh the pros. The D-Pad feels extremely loose and has an audible click with every press, which is never a good sign for a controller. The face buttons are alright, but the shoulder buttons are just off. L1 & R1 feel very loose and also click, but L2 & R2 don't give enough -- you really have to force them down to get the full range of the triggers. When it comes to intangibles, this controller does not feature any motion sensitivity or force feedback. It does have a feature that allows you to switch the function of the D-Pad with the left analog stick, but it doesn't translate as well as I would have hoped. All in all, this is a decent second controller for your PS3. Highly recommended for shooter fans because of the analog sticks, but everyone else should be cautious. The D-Pad is unforgivable.
EDIT: After spending a bit more time with this controller, I'm starting to like it more and more. The added weight really is a huge advantage, and the triggers are awesome once you get used to them. I'm still not a fan of the D-pad, but luckily 95% of the games out there mainly use the analog sticks. If the PS3's stock controller isn't your cup of tea, I would definitely recommend this to just about anyone.
 Solid controller as long as you don't need rumble March 4, 2008
I've always enjoyed the Logitech brand controllers for all my consoles. This controller is a great deal if you're looking for an inexpensive second controller. The one, or two downsides it is the inability to turn the PS3 on with the controller and lack of rumble. Aside from that, I actually prefer this controller over the six axis for some games as it has added weight and feels less "cheap" than the Sony brand contoller. This is mainly used when guests come over and play, so it's perfect. Highly recommended.
