A decent crossword game...for kids August 10, 2008 It's important to understand that this game seems to have been designed specifically for kids. It starts with very simple 4x4 grids, with mostly fill-in-the-blank clues, and progresses to more difficult, though still pretty basic crossword styles. It also includes a couple other word-based games (anagrams and word-searches) that are similarly geared toward younger users.
The handwriting recognition is only fairly accurate - about the same as Brain Age. The interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, though not particularly conducive to fast puzzle solving.
If you are looking for a more challenging crossword game - as you would find in a newspaper, for example - check out the New York Times Crossword Puzzles, also for the Nintendo DS.
Good for Crossword beginners August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The crossword section of this game is really easy, I think it would be better for beginners or kids. It does a great job of recognizing handwriting though and there are a ton of crosswords, so I don't think you'll run out of them for a while! I like the small wordsearches that fit on one screen, but when they get larger, it's hard to find words while having move the actual puzzle all over the screen. I really like the anagrams, I spent more time doing those then anything else! If you'd like to get into Crosswords or have a kid who would, then check this out. If you're already an avid player of Crosswords this would be too easy for you.
Too easy! July 31, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's a little boring, at least for me. You have to get through too many simple crosswords before you get to anything slightly interesting. I'd like something in between this version and the NY times version. I'm smart but not brilliant.
What's a ten-letter word for "simplistic?" July 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
That's right. "Crosswords." If you're halfway decent at solving crossword puzzles--i.e., you can finish most NY Times daily puzzles and at least half of the Sunday ones--this game is most definitely not for you. Even the hardest level is no more challenging than the puzzles in those two-inch thick puzzle books you can buy at the grocery check-out for two dollars. That said, if you happen to have a bright eight year-old lying around the house, this is a great way to introduce him or her to the joys of solving. The software looks great, works perfectly and is easy to understand. Just don't expect any cleverness from the clues or, even worse, to learn anything at all from playing Nintendo Crosswords.
Cross WorDS July 24, 2008 I love this game. Its so addictive that I found myself looking up after 5 hours of playing! I would recommend it highly.
