4 out of 5 stars NOTHING NEW OR INVENTIVE, BUT IT'S FUN 7.5 OUT OF 10   December 30, 2007

Generally, these days I hate the animated movies that come out mostly over the fact they suck really bad, and their games don't do much to redeem the crap that was the movie they're based on. I've never seen Cars, but I don't want to because I'm afraid Disney has diseased Pixar and that their new movies might suck. This game was actually pretty fun, but unfortunately it's nothing new or creative, and it will never make me forget Mario Kart and my times with the franchise. I played this game after a friend couldn't do much to get new tracks by winning because he was always losing. So he gave me his DS and this game to see if I could beat him and do better. Turns out the game was actually simple for me and I really had no trouble unlocking the tracks and completing the other challenges (This is what you gain when you play Mario Kart for years). This game is perfect for kids, and it really isn't too hard for them either along with adults who don't know much about playing games. The graphics look nice for a DS game even though it looks kinda like a PSone or N64 game. The controls function properly and work how they should, the race tracks are actually interesting and I never really got bored looking at them, this game has a decent selection of vehicles (a.k.a the characters) to choose from, and the game has a high replay value to it. I was surprised I liked this kids game aside from retro Nintendo games and last year's Over the Hedge game, and it has proven itself to me and I am considering buying both Cars games for my 360 because I was satisfied enough with the experience. If you're looking for a good kids game this is perfect along with Over the Hedge because they are both actually fun to play for kids and adults.

My girls love it! They play for hours and laugh the whole time. They even race against my husband.

5 out of 5 stars Just as good as Mario Kart   December 13, 2007

My 7 yr old is loving this game, it was given to him as a Bday gift. He's having just as much fun with this game as the Mario Kart. You seem to have to do more in this game, to get other cars.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding DS Racing Title for Fans of the Film   November 4, 2007
17 out of 18 found this review helpful

If you own a DS and enjoyed the movie Cars, don't hesitate to buy this game. Unlike the minigame collection that formed the DS version of the first Cars game, DS Maternational is everything you'd want from a DS Cars game: Fast, fun racing with all the humor and personality of the film. It lacks the virtual-Radiator Springs world to drive around that forms the hub of the console versions, but the racing is smooth and well-done.

This is, hands-down, the 2nd most enjoyable racer on the DS (after Mario Kart.)

The game delivers a fully animated opening cinema (later cinemas from the console versions are presented as slide shows), a solid 3D racing game engine, voice acting for all characters during races (they're a very talkative bunch!) and imaginative tracks with hidden shortcuts that trigger in-race special events.

You begin with a choice of 2 racers (Lightning and Mater), unlocking more characters as you discover secret routes. Unlockable cars include Sheriff, Doc, Sarge, Flo, Lizzie and several others.

So -- for any Cars fans out there wondering whether or not this one's worth a purchase, wonder no longer: This game's a blast.
