Editorial Review
Take the already brutal sport of football, get rid of the refs, legalize certain performance-enhancing drugs, and the result would look a lot like NFL Blitz 2000. This home version of the eponymous coin-op arcade game tackles "no rules, no refs" football with such over-the-top playfulness that you can't help but smile when another player knocks yours off his feet with a late hit.

NFL Blitz 2000 re-creates its coin-op cousin with deftness, including on-fire mode, which boosts a team's performance when they're playing well, and audible play-calling at the line of scrimmage. Four players can compete at once in Blitz 2000, but the action often is too confusing for this option, so two-player games are better. Passing control has been improved to include an icon-passing mode for more exacting control. Outstanding sound effects of bone-crushing tackles and trash-talking players, meshed with crisp, fast-moving graphics, translate into a thrilling gameplay experience. In two-player mode this sports action game is unparalleled. --Jeff Young

Pros:

  • Ultimate action/sports football game
  • Hilarious, exaggerated pro football action
  • Sharp, exciting graphics and excellent sound
Cons:
  • New features may not be enough for owners of NFL Blitz

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!   February 15, 2005
What is better than kickin' back with a friend and playing a quick fun game of NFL Blitz? This is the best of the series. ( introducing fire ) and I can't stop playing it with my cousin. Come ON! It's great! My friends and I kick back and play this game all the time.. it's great because of the fact there are so many interceptions and fumbles..

The Verdict - Buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Interception Acception   January 29, 2003
There are usually too many football video games that try to bring more special graphics displays, then the actual enjoyment of humor and feel of a actual enjoyable sports video game in the entire field of video games. The only acception, NFL Blitz, is a perfect exception to the rule, blending in some zany humor, and some incredible things you'd never expect to see in any real football game.

NFL Blitz 2000, the successful sequel to NFL Blitz, contains all of the componens of each team in the AFC and NFC. Also added to the mix are incredible zany stadiums that consist of playing football on a rooftop in the middle of a city, to the classic style of an traditional stadium. Also included are humorous codes that can change the game into a war zone. Codes like No Interceptions, changing the football into the size of an giant balloon, and even super field goals, can change the face of football time and time again. It is just too bad that can't happen in the real game, it would finally make sports fun.

While many people are now into the games for Nintendo's Gamecube, for those who still own the Nintendo 64, really need to own this sports game. It is just a first down to the ultimate gaming library. Only, if you still own the Nintendo 64 and didn't trade it in for a CD-ROM gaming system that takes longer to upload the game. NFL Blitz 2000 is that one kind of fantasy sports game, that continues to bring in the touchdowns easily.

3 out of 5 stars Not NFL   April 19, 2001

If you want a REAL NFL game you should get Madden 2001, but if you want some WWF footbal game, get this.

4 out of 5 stars Everything's on fire, except for the on fire...   January 12, 2001

This game was an excellent jump up from the original NFL Blitz in all but one way... the on fire feature. Complete three passes to your favorite receiver in a row and suddenly your team is unstoppable. It take a big chunk of fun out of the two player mode, as well as when the computer gets it against you.

The gameplay is excellent, but really, I'd like to see more options as far as the players and teams go. If you liked original Blitz, then you'd like this as well. 4/5
