Editorial Review
Although it's geared more for younger players, Pokemon Snap is good clean fun for Pokemon fans of any age. In this Pokemon battle-free adventure, players assist Professor Oak in completing his Pokemon Report by photographing the cute little buggers in the wild on Pokemon Island. Players take a trolley-like ride through the island's 3-D environments, filled with Pokemon that not only look just like they do in the cartoons, but also have "cries" to match. While there's a limited amount of film for each trip and no zoom lens, players enjoy great freedom of directional movement from within the vehicle, thanks to solid controls.

Pokemon Snap isn't as easy as it looks, as not just any old picture will satisfy Professor Oak; submissions for his Pokemon Report are judged on size, pose, technique, and whether or not there's more than one of the same Pokemon in the picture. As progress is made, new areas open up, and players are given items to aid them in their quest. Although there are only seven areas, they need to be revisited often, as hidden and otherwise uncooperative Pokemon must be "coaxed" by using items that you previously didn't have before. Also, Pokemon will do some of the craziest things--which make for great photographs--but only under certain conditions that require much experimentation (or a strategy guide) to unearth. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Good clean fun for Pokemon fans of any age
  • Cute Pokemon 3-D graphics and "cries" faithful to the cartoon series
  • Print out stickers of your photos at a Pokemon Snap Sticker Station
Cons:
  • An anti-Pokemaniac's worst nightmare
  • Contains only 63 of the 151 Pokemon
  • Game cartridge can hold only 1 player's save data

3 out of 5 stars Pokemon Snap   June 16, 2008
My 5-year-old son loves it!!! He enjoys feeding the pokemon and seeing the various types more than taking their pictures though.

Yeah, I'm a serious pokemon fan, yeah I'm 18. Even though I beat the whole game in a little over an hour it was fun the whole time. I think thats how I did it so fast, you are just like... pulled in. I beat it a few times when I was younger then decided to buy it again, so thats the only reason I blew through it.. but it's so fun trying to find out the secret places and pokemon and getting new items to use. The coolest thing I think is seeing the pokemon run around all in 3-d and realistic like, and trying to find ways to take new pictures is definitely fun. I think it's even fun to watch someone else play.

Are you a pokemon fan? Buy. this. game.

5 out of 5 stars Fun, Excellent   March 18, 2008
This gane was so much fun, i thought it would stink but it was suprisingly good. This is a game the whole family will enjoy.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Pokemon to date.   March 10, 2008
I throughly did not like this game at all. Unless you enjoy being on a set track and taking pictures of pokemon with a limited amount of film and giving them food or bombing them or playing music for them and taking more pictures. Then this game is not for you.

3 out of 5 stars Good for the little ones   December 28, 2007
I guess I was expecting more from the game. It's a pretty good game for the little ones, but my 10 year old got bored with it after about 30 minutes. The game consists of taking virtual snapshots of "wild" pokemon. Once you get the gist of it (about 15 minutes or so), it's pretty easy to master. Good game for kids under 7 or so, and good for beginners into the Pokemon world.
