Editorial Review
As with just about anything brandishing the Pokemon name, Pokemon Stadium is a must-have for any Pokemaniac. But this title is especially geared towards owners of Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, or Pokemon Yellow for the Game Boy. Using the same battle system as the Game Boy games--think highly advanced rock-paper-scissors--Pokemon Stadium allows players to enter their Pokemon in a variety of tournaments and other battle modes, all featuring vibrant 3-D graphics and animation, as well as enhanced sounds and announcer commentary. Using the included Transfer Pak, players can use their own Pokemon from Game Boy Game Paks, or they can choose from a pool of rental Pokemon.

Pokemon Stadium isn't all battles, though. The Kids Club mode features nine cutesy minigames that make for great multiplayer fun for all ages. Gallery mode lets players take snapshots of Pokemon (similar to Pokemon Snap), which can then be printed out as stickers at your local Pokemon Snap station.

While Pokemon Stadium doesn't require that you already have any Game Boy version of Pokemon, players won't be able to access two of the best features of the game without one. Pokemon Lab allows players to view, store, and better organize the data on their Game Paks, as well as trade Pokemon with another player (which requires an additional Transfer Pak, sold separately). GB Tower allows gamers to play their Game Boy Pokemon cartridge on the Nintendo 64. --Joe Hon

Pros:

  • Tried-and-true Pokemon battle system with enhanced graphics and sounds
  • Allows you to play your Game Boy Pokemon game on the Nintendo 64
  • Ability to manipulate data on your Game Boy Pokemon game
  • Minigames make for great multiplayer fun for all ages

Cons:

  • Not likely to win over any Pokemon holdouts
  • The Game Boy Pokemon games are a better starting point for newbies to the genre

3 out of 5 stars Fun if you love pokemon.   March 10, 2008
This game's main plot is literally none existant. The funniest parts in my opinon was the mini-games and I suppose fighting the elite four. The other modes I did not enjoy as much but if you prefer the Pokemon games on the handhelds then this makes trading and locating Pokemon that you missed if you are just that big of a pokemon collector.

5 out of 5 stars IT NEVER GETS OLD OR TIRING 9 OUT OF 10   December 2, 2007
Despite the fact I've grown out of the Pokemon card game rush, the video games get old for really for anyone, unless you're playing the recently released garbage instead of the retro classics. It never gets old to collect badges and being a stupid kid with a baseball cap, assembling your destructive force of Pokemon, fighting the numerous trainers in numerous stadiums, getting into the hall of fame, and playing the wildly fun mini-games. The only problem with the game is the fact your attacks can miss your opponents and you can get paralyzed. If you love retro classics, you have to like the old-time Pokemon games or there is something deeply wrong with you.

5 out of 5 stars just as good as wii   July 10, 2007
As a newcomer to the Pokemon world (Just a bit too old when it got popular, but now w/ my own kids, I love it), I've discovered that this game is just as cool as the new one for the Wii. Picked it up used for $2.oo and its just as good as the wii game I got my young boys for $50.

Received in good condition and in timely manner, but don't have the correct platform to use it, so can't rate it properly.
