Best Madden ever! August 15, 2008 EA really cranked it up a notch this year in making this game. The style, gameplay, presentation is the best in any Madden game ever made. If you want a true NFL experience then Madden 09 is what your looking for. This game plays to your strengths and weaknesses alike alowing for constant inprovement on both sides of the ball for any gamer. This game makes the gamer play real football. So all you 3 play champions out there learn a new play or 2 cause you might need it. The only hitch in this game is they took the jump the snap on defense out so this is up to you hit the line. But other than that Madden 09 is challenging on any level for any player that loves real NFL football the way it is suppose to be played. I recommend this game very much for the challenge and fun it offers as your favorite team in the NFL.
Madden 09....meh August 15, 2008 I have not purchased a Madden game since they got the exclusive license, it just seemed like EA was not trying anymore. Each year was just a new gimmick that did nothing to fix the so-so graphics, sketchy physics and poor presentation. 2009 looked to be the game that EA decided to listen to the fans and deliver a true next gen experience, unfortunatly it is not all they are hyping it to be. The game runs in a very jerky way, what I mean is there are pauses and hesitations between plays as selections come up or replays come in, the screen will freeze, or jump. Even during a replay the camera following the action shakes and stutters and hitches along, very distracting. There are many freezing issues and strange graphic glitches (after a touchdown my guy ran through the end zone, through the barrier and back out). I hope a patch will be released to adress these issues. On the poistive side, the game does look good, the grass looks great and player models are closer to the real-life counterparts. There is a strange white outline around all the players though, not sure why. The announcing is solid and pretty accurate. Backtrack...what seems like a good idea is executed pretty poorly with Chris anouncing things that are way off. The rewind feature, forget it, complete waste of time. Madden IQ is ok, I do not see how it is implemented in the game other than a clever idea, just does not seem to effect the game that much. Overall it is a solid effort, if a patch is forthcoming that addresses the framerate and glitches it would make this a 4 star game, as is, it seems rushed and un-finished.
another football season, another year of madden August 14, 2008 This year's madden is much better than 2008. The gameplay is tighter and it is harder to run. The graphics are top notch, especially when there is weather involved. The models are lifelike though refs are still missing and there is no chain gang. The sideline players don't really move or show emotion either. These are little things but make a difference when looking at the game as a whole. The graphics definitely make you feel you are playing a next gen game.
However, I do not like the running game whatsoever, it is very hard to run as once you make a move for a hole to bust through there are three defenders there to tackle you. If you try to go around someone being blocked, they suddenly come free and tackle you. You need a strong offensive line in this game otherwise your running game will be non-existant. Even the AI of the computer when running isn't that impressive - no big games from any runners, including LT.
The whole madden iq system actually backfires - it is easy to pass the tests (my iq was at 665) but then you play the first game and the game is a lot harder than the madden test - after my first game my iq dropped to 504 so obviously i wasn't really a 665. The game constantly adapts to you which is fun but at the same time I have played 20 games now and no matter who you face they play at your skill level, meaning you don't blow teams out - my biggest win has been by 4.
Fun game yes, gameplay, while much improved, leaves a lot to be desired. No progression in franchise mode makes pre-season and training activities a moot point. I put Favre on the Jets (he is on the legends roster and can be moved to free agency or you can download the roster update). He is rated 99 and is 25 years old so I can have him for like 15 years lol. I might keep him though because if I draft a QB there is no way for him to get better. If they patch this it would be good but for those who can't go online to play it is not fair.
I myself have not had freezing problems but friends of mine have. I can't comment on them since I have not experienced one - I have a brand new elite xbox which might help, I don't know. I would get this game again if I could unless there was another choice out there, which there isn't. Madden suffices to give me some football fun but leaves a decent amount to be desired.
Finally August 14, 2008 I have been disappointed with the previous Madden editions, particularly for the 360 console but the folks at EA Sports have eradicated my doubt by developing what I believe is the best Madden ever. GRAPHICS - The graphics are truly stunning, which immerses you into the NFL experience with stunning visuals. Among these stunning visuals are nuances like players helping each other up off the ground, picking up a dead ball and running with it (in attempt to fool the ref that it was a fumble), freestyle TD celebrations, and various other realistic movements of players after each play. The look of the stadiums, shadows, weather and other aesthetics are truly stunning to look at. The crowd involvement in the game is better and more realistic. The one thing that is missing is the group dynamic - players don't celebrate with each other in the game like they do in the real NFL. Hopefully they add this to next year's game. GAMEPLAY - The fluidity of the players on the field is a huge leap from last year. With previous versions I felt as if there was a slight delay or slowness with the game and the players were stiff. This year's version is fast and fluid. The number of moves you can perform is mind boggling and can be done in combination now. They weren't kidding when they said they rebuilt the animation system and gameplay. With the Madden test and IQ rating you can really hone your skills. I'm not sure if I am truly buying the adaptive part of this game yet. Time will tell. TV BROADCAST - This is a huge step up over the radio broadcast. Chris Collinsworth is far from being my favorite personality but he actually did a good job in this game. From time to time he will review a replay and detail reasons it failed or succeeded (depending on what side you're on) and this brings enormous realism to the game.
I haven't started a season yet so I cannot comment on dynasty. I imagine it will be similar to last year's setup, which is fine. What truly matters is the huge upgrade in graphics and gameplay. Every year they hype Madden to a ridiculous volume. I believe the hype matched the product this year. And to digress a bit - I believe NCAA 09 was also enhanced for the better as well. Good job EA Sports
"Very nice, I like!!!" August 13, 2008 Beautiful graphics, realistic physics and stellar game play!!! You'll feel more involved and in tune than you ever have w/ any other Madden, or any football title for that matter! The developers finally seem to have a grasp on harnessing the 360's full power/abilities. It's the next-gen Madden we've all been waiting for and it's FINALLY here!!! If you haven't picked it up... Well, let's just say you are out of your freakin' mind!!!!!!!! I'm not going to take up any more of your time; instead of reading this you should be playing Madden 09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
