An upgrade from 2005, but that's not saying much March 11, 2007 I don't know what EA is waiting for with the DS Madden franchise. Every year the fans line up on promises of new features, and every year we're delivered an incrementally improved piece of crippleware. Maybe instead of shoehorning an MP3 of a single Foo Fighters song on the cart they could've taken a little more time and fleshed out the franchise mode so it resembled the console version. There are very few ways in which you could reasonably expect the portable game to accurately resemble the full version, but that's one of them.
Moreover, while I appreciate the desire to implement some sort of touchscreen alternate control scheme, it should be 100% optional, and it isn't. You can play most of the game without the stylus, but every time you want to kick you have to drag that stylus out and use the wonky kicking gesture that never really seems to work right. Would A-button power and accuracy a-la the older console version have been such a bad thing?
This is an ugly game. Ugly as sin. Ugly as the devil's own face. But you know what? All through it I got the impression that with just a few tweaks it would be a very playable game. That's probably enough to get some people lining up for next year's version... but it's a wait I strongly advise taking.

All around a good game. It gets kinda easy and sometimes it can get boring.
Pros: Good Graphics Good Gameplay Good multiplayer
Cons: Multi cant run off of one gamecard Easy and can get old
I would reccomend this for football lovers
Touchdown!!! December 27, 2005 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I always am surprised about how sports franchises can always be up or down. That has been the case with the football games the NFL has licensed for years. Yet, they have been very successful with the Madden franchise for years, and what has been a constant developement into one of the greatest football franchises around. Sadly, this year, it is reallt the only football game that the NFL can fully use as a franchise. Still, that hasn't stopped it from continuing to shine on handheld and consoles too. It previously made its debut for the Nintendo DS last year, and now it has returned with a whole new blitz.
Madden '06 for the Nintendo DS system is a much better game on the handhelds than before. Considering that this is only the second title for the Madden series for the DS, there is so much more improvement this time around. The graphics and sound effects have been displayed nicely, and really shine in gameplay with each of the NFL greats from the New York Jets, to the Miami Dolphins, and even the San Francisco 49'ers. The gameplay is much more percise and the control is a lot easier to pick up than before. Although visually it is a far cry than the version for the PSP, it does still carry through with the gameplay, but for DS owners, I doubt it honestly makes any difference.
Yet, it is sad that Madden '06 is the actual only football franchise game out there for the Nintendo DS, it definitely does carry out well. This is a must buy for any armchair quarterback who loves video football, and the feeling of a great touchdown. Otherwise, you're just striding nothing but incomplete passes.

ITs WORTH IT! December 11, 2005 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
I think this is One of the Best Maddens yet! You can Build Your Own team changing the unifrom and their TEAM NAME! THe Graphics are much better then the Gameboy Advance and the SP! The Touch Screen IS what Makes this Game so Awesome! With the PS2 ANd the X Box The Kicking Is Much Harder to do. The Music and the anoucers dont repeat the same thing over and over like the GaMEBOY advance and PS2! Multiy Player Is soo Cool. You can do all these drills and activites with other people! The Madden Cards are way cooler, you can pump up the stands and some times you can get cheats. The ONLY bad part about this game is that if You are whooping the other team the Cpu will start to make up stuff like holding, Face Mask. Overall a Great Game!
