2 out of 5 stars Nice concept, execution failure.   September 1, 2008
I bought this controller when the price went down thanks to Deal of the Day. What a mistake that was. But it wasn't all bad. Let's start off with some good points of this controller. The feel of the controller is very much like the XBox 360 controller, with the triggers being triggers, concave analog sticks, and a junk D-pad (not really a pro, but I found it to be a bit better than the stock 360 pad but still inferior to the stock PS3 pad). It's definitely larger than the 360 controller as well. Other pros include a bundled rechargeable battery with an optional AA pack and a 10ft. USB cord for recharging, easily the equivalent of the 360 Play and Charge kits. The face of the controller has metal plating, keeping the controller cool while giving it a higher quality look. But that's only the look.

It's the downsides of the controller that really take this concept down. First, I found that the analog sticks aren't nearly as sensitive as the Sixaxis/DualShock 3. The left stick is serviceable, but trying to use the right stick in FPS style games became a headache. The "dead zone" for these sticks is very large, whereas the stock PS3 pad has almost none. I had to press the stick further in order to move the aim, and I found that it was near impossible to make small, precise movements for shooting enemies that were only a little bit off center. In other words: forget headshots. The USB dongle is large and the orange color certainly does not match the PS3's blue and green when turned on. Also, being a USB device, it's impossible for the Zero to turn the PS3 on remotely like the Sixaxis. My biggest complaint? The Zero became twitchy after three days of use, and wouldn't stop rapidly registering L1/L2 button presses. Repeated attempts to solve the problem, such as reconnecting it, removing the USB dongle, removing the battery, and even taking the controller apart and re-fitting the connections could not solve it. Because of this problem, the controller is pretty much useless now. Sigh.

I highly suggest you avoid this product.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good.   August 28, 2008

I picked up one of these from a certain online computer store (name involves a TIGER..DIRECTly) for 21 dollars shipped. The black one is sick looking, silver is great too, white not so much. Overall you can tell its not a Sony controller but the build is pretty darmn good, back lit buttons are slick, six axis is right on, vibration is nice too. I have a dual shock but like this one more. Give it a try, it aint bad.

1 out of 5 stars Ok at first, but then....   August 21, 2008

I ignored the negative reviews of this product and let the cheap price sway me to buy them. That was a mistake. Although they did work ok for a couple of weeks and worked just fine because I have young kids that didn't care if the were the best every made, but unfortunately after those two weeks the controllers both started to act up. They would lose connection, some buttons would work and some wouldn't and then they were just useless.

Don't let the price blind you like it did me.

1 out of 5 stars NOT the greatest controller in the world   July 20, 2008

I bought this thing because my brother-in-law had one and he said it was great for Tiger Woods Golf because the left joystick was so stiff it would deliver a perfect swing. I think what happened was he just ended up getting a one in a million controller that had a beneficial malfunction because the one I got sucked at it. The infra red wirless remote thing sucks too. My PS3 is in an entertainment center with an opague glass. The infra red receptor doesn't always pick up the signal through the opaque glass and I can't leave it open because I have a 3 year old daughter who doesn't realize the difference between a PS3 and a beachball yet (But she is still my Li'l Angel). In my opinion you'd be much better off sticking with the Sony wireless controller.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad, some small flaws   July 16, 2008

Quality is not the same as Sony, but not out of line w/ the 3rd party pricing (these run as low as $25). However, the buttons (especially the D-pad) don't feel as solid as a Sixaxis, and the USB dongle sucks up a port (whereas the Sony controller does not).
