Product Description
MLB 08 THE SHOW is set to provide fans with the most realistic baseball experience to date with innovations such as a more immersive Road to The Show mode, enabling gamers to play both offense and defense from the created player's perspective. Providing players with some additional performance incentives, the MLB franchise introduces the Progressive Batting Performance feature, which will both reward players for superior performance and penalize them for hitting slumps. Specific to each individual batter, players will be rewarded with slight contact bonuses, or punished with slight decreases in contact, based on how that batter performs beyond his "natural ability." MLB 08 THE SHOW introduces SCOUT (SportsConnect Online User Tracking), which allows you to set and store your game preferences on the MLB server, and enables the system to look for a Quick Match with opponents that fits similar competitive criteria. Exhibition Mode/Quick Game - Gamers can select their favorite team and compete against the AI for a quick game on the go Historical Greats - Offers Historical Greats, giving them the opportunity to go against the legends of the past Release Point Pitching with Confidence Meter - The ultimate pitcher/batter interface returns Playmaker Fielding- The fielding interface brings the player attributes together with the user's skill level Multi-Branch Fielding - Branch Point Technology goes to a new level as gamers can now take full control of fielders and break out of any animation in the process User Controlled Slides - Players can now control base runners in attempts to advance and/or score MLB Authenticity - Presents fans with finer details and nuances that make the game America's past

5 out of 5 stars Best baseball game I've ever played.   July 7, 2008
This game is simply amazing.
They took a solid product in MLB 07, and made the slight improvements and kept the smooth gameplay of 07. I had owned 07 on ps2 and was very satisfied with the product. I had doubts about the ps3 version after playing madden 08 on ps3 (horrible compared to the ps2 version). This game is the exact opposite. While madden became choppy and slow, this game became more smooth and maintained the same game speed.
The graphics for this game on ps3 with a 1080p tv are incredible. The stadiums are almost exact and the fans actually move. The players even have identifiable faces.
The game is simply amazing, I'll be addicted to it for some time to come, while madden will collect dust on the shelf unless the new one makes a ton of improvements.

5 out of 5 stars Best game ever....   July 7, 2008
This game franchise by sony has become the elite baseball franchise in the game industry today. It allows you to manage your team or to play road to the show where, you the "rook" are the only one you control and you take yourself from Spring Training to AA to AAA and to "The Show". And you also in both modes are able to train yourself or buy products for your team to train and improve. This game is a must buy for all baseball fans with a PS3, PS2, and/or PSP.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent. One of the best purchase I have ever made   June 30, 2008
Excellent video game. For the baseball fans is the best option. Any othe baseball game would be the second choice.

4 out of 5 stars Great albeit no Home Run Derby   June 29, 2008
That's right, no Home Run Derby in this version of the game, even though the PS2 release managed to squeeze it in. The reasoning behind this I can only assume is to ensure the PS2 version of the game sells on par with the PS3's.

Nearly every conceiveable aspect to the game has been covered here and allows for pretty much anyone with little to no experience with the concept of the sport to jump in. When pitching you're given suggestions on which pitch to throw and a location, although of course you're not restricted to throwing the recommended pitches. Batting is handled well allowing you to choose between Rookie and Veteran/Hall of Fame styles, meaning you can choose Rookie if you're unfamiliar or uncomfortable using the analog stick to pick a spot in or out of the strike zone to swing at pitches, or Veteran/H.O.F. style batting if you want more control of where you make contact with the ball.

There's options for nearly all aspects of the game, so should you have trouble in a certain area of the game or find it too easy, you're allowed to modify pretty much any setting you can think of, including the stamina of yours and CPU/Player 2's pitchers to allow for more/less consistant pitches over a period of time as the game progresses.

Road To the Show is a nice take on a Career Mode which allows you to create a new player starting in AA, and eventually/potentially playing games in the MLB. Although to really get anywhere decent it will require that you put a fair amount of time and care in how you progress as a player. Should you ignore your training and/or be locked in a long slump, you may find yourself benched; in bad status with your coach and if you reach AAA or the Majors, demoted and sent back down to AAA/AA.

Overall, if you're a fan or have been looking to find a good baseball game to play, this would likely be your best option to date.

4 out of 5 stars Best '08 baseball game.   June 23, 2008

I have played MLB 2K8 for PS3, 360 and Wii. That game his horrible on every one of those formats. From freezing problems to loading glitches, not to mention the gameplay controls that are horribly, epically, disastrously difficult to master. That game is simply not fun.

MLB 08: The Show is everything that game is not. The graphics are outstanding. The play calling is entertaining. The cut scenes add depth to the game rather than taking it away. Most of all, gameplay is easy to master. This is simply the most fun 2008 baseball game on the market.
