Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
Ecco the Dolphin, originally an innovative Dreamcast title, has made it to PlayStation2, with newly optimized graphics and design features that correct the main shortcomings of the Dreamcast version--primarily the inadequate player guidance. Ecco is a dolphin in a hyperrealistic 3-D underwater world. Players will control Ecco as he is sent back to the past and tries to reinstate the paradise of his future. How? Evil forces have conspired to destroy the planet, and if Ecco can recover the stolen and scattered dolphin power, he can restore the harmony between dolphins and humans.

But first, you're going to have to learn to swim, eat, and think like a dolphin. Use different songs to communicate with other sea creatures and be prepared to defend yourself against predatory sharks. Later, go on to solve puzzles and work with others to accomplish your goals. The game features beautifully detailed seascapes, with creatures and plants that look and move realistically.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT game for Dolphin/Marine lovers!!! *****CHEAT*****   July 9, 2007

I LOVE this game!! I had a little trouble getting past all the levels so I have a cheat in case you get stuck for all the levels:
Go to {Player Menu} and choose [New Game}

Enter GYU GYU GYU

Press CIRCLE (if the cheat works the plant on the left should shoot out lots of bubbles)

Press the X button to start a new profile Then go to the level select and all the levels should be usuable!

VERY fun game overall!!:D

1 out of 5 stars Not good   February 8, 2006

This game isn't good. It's nothing like the original games for Genesis. Want to play good games? Then get Ecco the Dolphin, Ecco 2 The Tides of Time, and Ecco Jr. for Genesis.

This story doesn't make sence! I do like how you just swim around and all, but what's the story all about. I jus t think it's just an excuse to play as a dolfin. The person who said that it is the best graphics they'd seen for PS2 mus t be an oldy.

4 out of 5 stars original game play and concept   July 18, 2005

This game is very original, with absolutely gorgeous, some times even surreal environments. The graphics are for sure the best I've yet seen on a PS2 game. The game environments are very interesting, and the music is usually pretty good (though the intro song is kinda cheesy). The game play is pretty good, mixing action with puzzle. However this game is very difficult (even more than either of the Sega Genesis Ecco games), and some parts take a lot of patience. It could have really benefited from having different levels of difficulty. Also the controls do take time to get used to (though certainly they aren't terrible), and it can sometimes be quite difficult to find your way around in this game, I sometimes find myself becoming a bit disoriented in it.
If you are looking for a very challenging, action/adventure puzzle game, with a pretty well done story, and awesome graphics you will probably love this game.

1 out of 5 stars Very Difficult   January 20, 2005

I didn't like this game, because being older than the average video game player, I'm not smarter than the games most of the time. Anyways, I thought this would be fun, and I'm sure it would be if I could figure it out. I even have trouble getting Ecco to swim where I want him to. I don't have too much trouble steering in other games, just this one. I don't recommend it if you aren't an avid video game player.
