Useless October 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is easily the worst game guide ever created. I realize that the authors didn't want to list a bunch of stats because MMORPGs change over time. However, the guide offers nothing in the way of strategy.
Every class description is basically the same with a few variations. Why does there need to be a "Life as an Elf" section for ALL 4 Elf classes? This same philosphy is repeated throughout the entire book. The class strategies are vague at best and nonexistent at worst. Strategy for a tank would be to make sure you get close and keep the enemy close. Are you kidding me!? The strategy guide is really just an 8 page book repeated 20 times.
The Atlas is somewhat useful as a map but once again, no strategy. It tries but fails miserably. For Khaine's Embrace it says that you should capture the flag closest to your starting area. Then you need find your way to the other flag by going through or around the cave. This is repeated TWICE, once for order and again for destruction. Could you be any more obvious. Stating the obvious is NOT strategy.
On the good side, the art is great. The "mood" of the books fits the Warhammer universe very well. Both books are full color and look great. Oh yeah, and the jokes are pretty funny too.
All in all, this guide (and set) are a complete waste of money. Just explore in game (to fill your map) and you will have the same resources you will get from this book. More actually because you'll have saved some money in the process.
Better then they usually do September 19, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Everyone knows that these guides typically stink because the game changes so fast. Thankfully, with this guide they have taken a different approach. Instead of being a book of spell listings, gear, and stats, it is a book about characters, background, strategy for each character, and map information.
In the book they state that Mythic wanted the guide to feel like part of the game, not a book of numbers. I must say it really does feel this way. There is a lot of information about each class. There is a sections that tell you which map to move on to and what level. Lots of information about the different maps and public quest. There is some decent information in here. It's the kind of guide I will just pick up and read instead of looking up "out-dated" information.
Overall I would say this book + the atlas are a good buy. They are better then the typical guide.
