5 out of 5 stars Larger hard drive, otherwise same thing as 40 gb version   August 31, 2008

My friend purchased this 80 gb version from best buy and I examined it, it looks to be the same thing as the 40 gb edition but twice the hard drive room, if you have been thinking about getting the 40 gb version you'r in luck with this modle. To review the ps3 you really need to play the next gen games, watch blu ray movies, get yourself a psn account and play online, also test it's accesory features like the 1.3 hdmi output, it's wi fi and compatibility withother products - I am very pleased in EVERY category. If you really take in everything your getting ikt is insane sony can give this all to you at this price, and I am very happy with sony for this. I never had the ps1, but I LOVE the ps2 and still play it! Also I have a psp and I am able to turn on my ps3, put my ps3 to work, then turn it off all from work or home using wi fi. Thats an example of compatibility with there other products it's really outstanding the detail they put into there products.
The games are second to none with hours and hours of fun and the most detailed next gen visuals around, i'm truly impressed. There have been problems at first programming on the ps3, programmers like rockstar noted they had a very very hard time with the ps3 on gta 4 becuase of the cell chip, gta 4 doesn't run in 720p because of this but overpowers in other areas essentially getting it a better score then on the 360's version. Rockstar and most devs now praise the ps3's power and rockstars ps3 exclusive title should be announced soon, and this time they understand how to harness the ps3's cell chip.
There are some other cool features about the ps3 I will mention - one is the fact you can use any laptop had drive in the ps3, also you can surf the web on your t.v. through the ps3, these are ps3 exclusive features that I really like, infact I have a 320 gb hdd in mine.
Backwards compatibility for ps2 is not in this modle and many people love that feature, but I have an 80 gb that can play ps2 games, and I still use my ps2 to play them, it's cool to have the ps2 sitting next to his big brother.
I have had my ps3 for about a year and a half and it's such a smooth running, tough machine that just won't break down no matter how crappy I treat it, I would buy one again in a heartbeat and sony has a life long fan. I hope I helped all who are looking for info on the ps3.

5 out of 5 stars The ps3 80gb mgs4 bundle has 65nm cell processor   August 29, 2008

People has very different ideas but as I search the web I see 2 things.
First, people who is using 80gb mgs bundle which release in july 2008 runs cooler, quieter and draw less power.Second the manual comes with mgs bundle are the old ones which sony used in july 2007 release. Here is a link to clear your mind "http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/26/tabulator-comparing-the-playstation-3-skus/" the chart in the link shows july 2007 mgs bundle uses the old processor but the july 2008 edition uses the new processor so if you want 2 editional usb port,sd card slots,ps2 backward compibility which is I think is imporant because mgs4 is difficult to understand if you havent play mgs1,2 and 3.So 59$ mgs4 and 40$ you are buying 2 usb slots and ps2 backward compibility.

Super sexy design. This console is sleek and looks very nice. I received this earlier than I had expected and got it all set up in a matter of minutes. I had one issue which I am not sure about yet- it needed an update when I first turned it on and while I was downloading the update the system froze. I did not receive any games yet, so I do not know if the freezing was limited to updating the system or if it is going to be a problem. So far I love the look and easy set-up. I will know more later and will report as appropriate.

5 out of 5 stars A great value   August 28, 2008

This has to be one of the best valued systems on the market today, you get a full gaming console, blu ray player and amazing storage and networking capabilities. all for just 399. I also own a 20 GB xbox360, and while the ps3 library is smaller because it came out to the market one year later, the ps3 has more all round value. Most of you are interested in gaming, and comparing to rivals, it had the best piece of hardware and in time its software will be as good as any other console.
Now that halo4 is not coming out for the 360 and only out in 2011 or 2012, i will be mostly playing games on the ps3 with improved graphics and physics game. i also noticed games like gear of wars are so small on xbox because it uses dvd . where as on ps3 it uses blu ray so games are 5 times on average longer. This is another plus point and shows that investment in ps3 is totally future proof.

This system is truly "caveat emptor" as the ground rules have changed. Unfortunately for me, I should have done more research on this 80GB PS3. As many of the other folks have noted, this machine is NOT backward compatible with the PS2. I had been led to believe, in talking with the people that sold video games, etc., that all I needed to be backward compatible with the PS2 was the 80GB machine.

If you look at the box the machine comes in the Feature "80GB" is in huge type, whereas the non compatibility statement is in about 6-8 point type. It was only after my favorite PS2 games wouldn't load that I started looking into why the game wouldn't load that I discovered my assumptions were wrong.

The PS3 has great graphics and other features, but be sure compatibility with the PS2 is not a requirement as this machine can't deliver.
