Product Description
Turn out the lights. Lock the doors....Live the Nightmare in RESIDENT EVIL. The award-winning survival horror series debuts on Nintendo GameCube system! A secluded mountain community, plagued by a storm of vicious attacks, is completely overrun. Mutant beasts, blood-thirsty zombies infest the landscape.

Amazon.com Product Description
Resident Evil, the game that is often credited with starting the survival-horror genre, is being reinvented for the GameCube. For those unfamiliar with the series, a mysterious corporation has secretly been performing ungodly biotech experiments in the sleepy little town of Raccoon City. When reports of gory attacks come in from nearby areas, two crack military squads are sent to investigate. Players take the role of either sharpshooter Chris Redfield or demolitions expert Jill Valentine to track down the source of the town's problems--specifically, something in a decaying mansion that's mutating animals into grotesque killers and turning humans into bloodthirsty zombies. Supplies and ammunition are scarce, so players have to know when to fight, when to run, and how to keep their wits about them. Players can't afford to waste their shots and expect their characters to survive.

The story is being retrofitted with motion-captured animation, next-generation graphics, real-time lighting and shadow effects, new areas, and newly rendered in-game video segments to create an even more cinematic experience. Also, a redesigned combat system lets players attack and defend themselves with a variety of items found in the environment.

5 out of 5 stars Impressive   October 24, 2008
I really love this game..It isn't like Resident Evil 4 just in case you are wondering..This is the original Resident Evil gameplay, its a horror/mystery game..It's basically a horror game with some very difficult but fun puzzles..Every now and then you'll run into some scary monsters and you're forced to kill them for your own safety..But the game isn't based around that like RE 4 is..The 2 biggest downfalls of this game are the controls..they just feel funny sometimes and the second is the doors! So many doors! Other than that everything else about this game is just beautiful especially the graphics..You wont believe the graphics,Xbox and Ps2 couldn't even compare

3 out of 5 stars Creepy, but slow: caution if RE4 (Wii) was your first RE experience   July 22, 2008

RE4 was one of the first games I played for Wii. It was also the first Resident Evil game I had played (I do not own a gamecube).
RE4 is extremely different from RE for gamecube.

RE4:
- better graphics
- more "shoot 'em up" style: tons of ammo, more killing, less walking around lost
- save whenever there's a typewriter
- you do not need a walkthrough, ever, if you are willing to spend 5 minutes to figure something out
- you can hold lots of weapons, herbs (health), and ammo.
- There is currency. You can upgrade and buy weapons from a merchant.
- fun (especially Wii version)

RE1:
- good graphics for its time; bad for the modern game
- you have to collect "ink ribbons" if you want to save. While generally there is a sufficient amount, it takes up space (see following bullet)
- conserve your ammo! walkthroughs suggest that you run past most zombies to conserve ammo. Also, you only have 6 spots, 8 with the girl to hold stuff. 6 spots is not enough. Sure, it makes it challenging, but soon it's annoying. 1 spot for handgun, 1 spot for handgun ammo, 1 spot for special item, 1 spot for herb, 1 spot for other gun, etc. it gets crowded, quickly.
- Creepy. All the walking around in the dark mansion makes it creepy, yes. And if you favor those kind of games instead of your standard HL shooter game, then by all means get it.
