Sometimes the gratitude of a nation just isn't enough

Set in the near future, the Battlefield: Bad Company single-player campaign drops gamers behind enemy lines as part of a squad of four soldiers - risking it all to go AWOL on a personal quest. Featuring a dramatic storyline flavoured with attitude, Battlefield: Bad Company leads gamers far from the traditional frontlines on a wild ride with a group of renegade soldiers who decide that sometimes the gratitude of a nation just isn’t enough. The Battlefield: Bad Company cinematic single-player experience captures the freedom and intensity of the Battlefield series’ multiplayer sandbox gameplay in a dynamic world where nearly everything is destructible. Players have total freedom to be daring and innovative, adapting to and tackling challenges in unexpected Battlefield-style ways. Create sniping positions by blowing out a piece of a wall or drive your tank straight through a small house. The ever-changing battlefield forces players, their teammates and enemies to react accordingly.

The game also features the all new, objective based multiplayer game mode "Gold Rush", supporting 24 players online. Play as attackers and defenders and make full use of the tactical destruction as well as the unique vehicle experience of Battlefield: Bad Company.

Battlefield: Bad Company is the first game built from the ground up for next-generation consoles using DICE’s bleeding-edge Frostbite game engine, delivering unrivalled graphics, effects and gameplay.

B Company

Welcome to the 222nd Army battalion, B-company. This is where the Army rakes together all the insubordinates, hellraisers and troublemakers that won’t fit in any other unit. When the Rangers and Deltas are too expensive to waste, these guys are the first ones in.

They’re called “Bad Company”; a mismatched bunch of rejects selected to serve their country as cannon fodder. This isn’t the kind of outfit a lot of soldiers would join voluntarily. Getting transferred to “the B” is a punishment and a way for the generals to put all their rotten eggs in one basket.

No one starts out in Bad Company. But for some, this is where they end up.

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic game for non-hardcore FPS Fans   August 7, 2008
I am not a big fan of the FPS genre. I play them from time to time, but they always seem WAY too complicated to me, and they usually are not easy to sit down and then pick back up a month later. I hate complex systems where I have to remember all these special combos in order to play the game. That is NOT this game.

You can pickup this game in a few minutes. The controls and simple and well organized (unlike the controls in Army of TWO or RB6).

The graphics are amazing. Yes, there are glitches and places that you can't destroy everything. But the ability to blow a wall out of a building to get at the enemy behind it awesome and very satisfying.

The single player game is a movie cut scene driven system. It is well written for an FPS and keeps the player moving into the game very well. You unlock new weapons in the game by finding them on dead enemies for the most part.

The online gameplay is amazing. You start with a few weapons and unlock more through gameplay. Your character has some RP elements to it by being able to spend your unlock points on things you like to do. You can unlock sniper rifles if that is all you like to do for example rather than getting a new assault weapon.

Playing online has been a lot of fun for me. I don't normally like FPS online play (too many kids with foul mouths yelling all the time). But this has been a lot of fun to play and level your character. You gain ranks and medals through online play.

VEHICLES!

You can also drive and shoot a lot of vehicles. In particular I love the ability to jump on a tank someone else is driving and be their gunner. If they jump out you can then take over and drive as well. Helicopters are included as well (hard to fly, but cool).

FUN FUN FUN - Squad concept too

I have not had this much fun playing an FPS since the original Unreal series. The maps are huge and leave a lot of room to run around. You fight a series battles on each multiplayer map. You can also choose to spawn with your squad, or to go back to the base. This is a lot of fun when you have a good squad as you can look out for each other while playing. There is a system between matches where you can rate your play with each squad mate and then you are paired up with people you like when they are online. Makes it even more fun when you get to know people online and then play together with them.

Gold edition might not have been worth it, but for me I thought it was nice to get the extra weapons.

5 out of 5 stars This Game ROCKS!   August 2, 2008
Battlefield: Bad Company is one of the best games out there! I believe it to be the best installment of the Battlefield Series. The graphics are outstanding, plus the ability to completely demolish everything on the map is quite extraordinary. There are also some fun things to do like having four guys in full gear riding around on a golf cart...lol friggin hillarious! BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Game!   July 27, 2008
Don't need to say much! Great game with nice new features! Destructible environment is a huge plus, besides all the great stuff Battlefield brand brings to the table! The Gold Edition is not that big of a deal, but for an extra 10 bucks I actually enjoyed the extra content that shows how the game engine was made and the game right after once they nailed the engine! Like this stuff a lot! So, it would not make much difference if I had gotten the regular edition but I am not disappointed with this one!

Campaign is fun, Multiplayer even better. Lack of Conquest makes it a 4 star, but the promise of being a downloadable content, makes it up for it!

2 out of 5 stars Great gameplay- bad business.   July 17, 2008

The storyline is excellent, and the single player campaign though not without its problems is pretty fun. There's no one set way to finish off any level and it generally allows you to do the mission how you want to do it. The enemies though, always know where you are so its pretty hard to hide, and a couple of missions can get pretty frustrating because of that.

The muliplayer is hours of fun. The problem I have with this game, and why I would not recommend buying it is because EA has decided to withhold certain weapons that are already on the disk to force you to jump through hoops to unlock them. One of them, the most powerful sniper rifle in the game, can no longer be unlocked. The rest have to be unlocked in ways that have absolutely nothing to do with the game itself. IE: Playing other battlefield games and registering them online, or playing the demo for so long, or checking your stats online.

Its a horrible marketing ploy and I would actually recommend not buying the game because of it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Game, Much Fun, Total Destruction   July 3, 2008

This game is really fun, and the totally destructable environments make it even the more so. The controls are easy to handle, the realism is very much so, and the experience is quite enjoyable. There is a level a detail that can be seen in the faces of your squad budies, and they are actually quite helpfull. There is a miriad of toys that you get to use in game that just add to the funnes. The sound effects and affects are way better than many other first person shooters that I have played, and you get to experience the feel of everything through the sound. If your borderline, go ahead and get it, the funness of it will make up for it. That and online play is enjoyable as well, it just adds another layer of intrigue into the mix.
