So much Potential! September 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was really excited about Pure. It has been a while since trick racing has been around. The first couple hours are a blast. I would have liked to see more options for customizing the quads. You do build them from the ground up, but there's just not enough different parts. Class D is where you begin. It's not that hard once you get the hang of the controls, to place first in every race. Just make sure you stay on the trails, you do not get rewarded for improvising and tryng to take massive shortcuts. When you go where the game does'nt want you to go, it merely throws you off of your bike. There are some sneaky shortcuts, but these are too far and between.
Racing is a pain at times-Here's the three most frustrating:
1. Even if you place first in all the races, you will always start a race in last (you start every race at the back of the pack).
2. Whenever you use your turbo (in campaign mode) the computer uses his too. I find it funny that the computer always knows when your going to use your turbo and matches you exactly.
3. Taking the right routes on the track is a must. Even if it's your first time racing a track-if you take the wrong route, you better bet the computer knows the right one-(ex. you will be in first, and because you take the right fork instead of the left, you will be fourteent after the fork).
Freesty;e mode is however a Blast!-This is where you compete for points by doing massive tricks.
Hopefully they come up with updates or patches to fix these issues. Especially in later stages, it becomes nearly impossible to score in the top three, let alone win the race.
It does have some great music, and overall is not a bad game. The graphics are simply astonishing, you definitely feel the thrill when you hit the large jumps and do a special trick. It's not a bad game, it just could have been so much better.
Verdict: Rent it for the weekend.
PURE FUN September 24, 2008 Finally, a racing game that I enjoy. The graphics are sharpe and vibrent. The controls are tight and not over complicated. Game play flows nicely. This a game the whole family could fun with. If you are looking for a game that delivers and does not take ten years to master then this is worth it. Simple but yet very entertaining.
Pure fun September 22, 2008 I have mixed feeling about this game, but from an objective point of view it deserves 4 stars.
After playing for a day I grew frustrated with it. The first section of races was easy and I came in first for each race. The next section was much more difficult. I tried to be patient and stuck with it, but at this point I was not able to better than 5th in the first race. I was able to earn enough point to move to the next section where I easily came in first in a race.
All that aside, I kept going back to play. The game is fun even when you lose. The difficulty is unbalanced, but I know if I keep at it, I can win those races I lost.
THE GOOD: This game is fun. The controls are great. The graphics are outstanding.
THE BAD: No split screen multiplayer. Upgrading an ATV is a complicated and time-consuming mess.
In the old days if a game did not have split-screen multiplayer it was a deal breaker for me. But now so many companies are putting out games that don't have this option so I can no longer be so picky.
One other thing to note is the fact that the online leaderboard causes my Xbox 360 to crash. Other players have noticed this same issue so it isn't my setup. I'll forgive this because I'm assuming a patch will be out soon.
Fun from the start.... September 22, 2008 This is one of the best racing games to come out on xbox360....the jumps are the best I've ever seen on any platform....you get to design your own ATV racer right from the start....the colors and designs are limited but still give you alot of choices....the colors are vivid and bright....graphics are solid without any noticable glitches. The races get tougher as your rank increases and you get more ATV's to design and race as you progress....after about 8 hours of racing this weekend I have 8 ATV's and am ranked in the top 50....not many games have addicted as much as this one.
complaints: No player creation....you have to be one of the provided PURE players when you race....too limited of choices in player outfits....ditto for the decal choices for your ATV....more color choices like that from NFS games would have better....
....and last the music selection....one of these days a game will come out that gives you some songs you've actually heard before....as with most games I'm forced to turn the music all the way down because the songs just plain suck....
Overall though a great game....I gave it four stars....with better music and if you could create your own player, plus more design choices and colors for your ATV I would have given it 5 stars.
Pure Racing equals PURE FUN! September 20, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have had this game for four days and i am soooo hooked! it is by far the best racing game on xbox 360. It reminds alot of SSX tricky but on ATV's. It is very fast pace and crazy, which i love. Online racing is a blast too. Get this game, it is so worth it.
