3 out of 5 stars it was ok, at least a remake of the best X-com game   December 21, 2007
pretty much almost like a story off what if you faild to save the earth in x-com UFO defance. it is in the futer and humens occupied a new planet.

i always wanted a remake of the first x-com game because i belive it was the best, i play the old one all the time then i got this game. i like how they kept the same Aliens and added new ones, i also like all the new wepons.

but they also took out a few things that made it easyer to not want to play as much as X-com:UFO. they took out the energy saver so it is easy to forget to watch what you are doing and run out of AP points, then when u see bad guy you cant shoot when in X-com you can set it up so they always have enough for at least a snap shot. they also made it harder to get money, i was use to building a million laser pistols and selling them for profit, in this game it costs more to build an iteam then to sell it. you can not sell dead bodies for profit.

a few added things i do love is they make the aliens just as bad shots as the humens and armor can save your life at times. and if you have a bad mission but still win you do not have to worry about rebuying units. med packs are actualy worth makeing and they recharge after every battle so you do not need to buy new ones.

over all i say buy it, it is a great game and can be fun to play also it can be a pain in the arse (at start of mission flammer shots into your transport ) so always save befor mission. but because of some of the cons it can make u want to stop playing it for a few days to rebuild the wanting to play it. and the open vid is stupied and anoying.

1 out of 5 stars Falls Short   November 3, 2007

Gameplay takes place on a made up planet for no real reason I could see.

Grafix are pretty bad.

You can kneel but there is no prone.

Fairly buggy.

One of the worst features is you must click on your equiped weapon every shot you take at an enemy, it gets real old...you will do this about 40-60 times per mission, and the is a near limitless number of missions.

Same old stuff...There are one or two enemy types I dont remember being in xcom, but they were in latter games.

The AI is very poor.

Bad translations into english in the UFOepedia. They took everything else from xcom, why didn't they just cut and paste the english text from xcom into their game?

Sounds are basicly the same from xcom. The music is ok.

Horrid outdoor grafix scale, example: trees in the game only seem to be a a maxium of 6 feet tall.

I am very pissed that there was no demo on the Chaos Concept webpage. I would not recomend you buy without a demo to see if you like it***

Overall it is a novelty game (which should have been freeware imo) strickly for dihard fans of the orignal xcom.

5 out of 5 stars UFO Extraterrestrials... (xcom)   October 1, 2007
Excellent game. Very few bugs, very clean. Basically an x-com sequal. Alot of people use the Bman mod and like it. I found the mod added bugs and crashes to game. But if it works for you it does add alot to the game. But even without the mod, game was alot of fun. Ending could have been better, kind of anticlimatic. Would have been nice to continue playing with your troops after you win (you can do this with Bman mod)

2 out of 5 stars Not really the same as x-com, and not really as good   October 1, 2007
I feel bad saying it, because I hate to be negative about someone else's work, but this game does not carry the weight that a semi-remake should. In the original, there were subtle differences that were important. These traits are *not* in UFOET: 1)the characters died with gender-specific screams. 2) reloading a weapon or moving an item took time 3) the characters actually died instead of being incapacitated for the remainder of the mission. 4) the global map was intuitively navigated in two ways with a right or left click. The loading time between missions and during alien turns in UFOET is really slow. Other parts of the game come across as sluggish as well; I could blame my computer for this, but since the game is not graphics-heavy, and many that are play fine on my system, I feel that UFOET should not be coded in such a way that it requires this amount of power.

X-Com was harder, sometimes to a ludicrous degree, and this contributed to its quality. It's not until the stakes are high and the goal is lofty that a game is truly interesting.

The music in UFOET is good.

4 out of 5 stars x-com addict from back in the day says its good but needs a little tweaking   August 6, 2007
Its really not that much better from UFO defense. The graphics are pretty much the same. It still has a spooky feeling. Some small stuff is gone they got rid of some useful stuff like the high explosives and smoke bombs that were the first one. High explosives and incendiary grenades were really cool in grassy fields in the first one. You could torch a huge part of a field killing aliens that were hiding in the grass. Little stuff like that is gone. Also your units get injured instead of killed and they spend time in the hospital leaving you with no troops. I am not bragging but I am very good at this type game from years of experience and found myself with no troops left a few days into the game. Needs some tweaking but for me it was good cause I loved the first one so much.

I think the coolest thing is that if that when you are near the end of your mission the remaining aliens come to you. I spend hours hunting for remaining aliens in the first one. You also dont go into houses in this one. I thought that was the best when you blew up the side of a house with a rocket in the first one. Anyway its good but the first one was magical.
