Good game... January 9, 2007 Usually I don't write reviews but I felt that this game deserved the two minutes I will put forth. From some of the reviews that I have read regarding episodic content they have been typically negative. But if you look at the history of games you will see that all games(save for the first game in a series) are episodic in nature. Doom 3 would not exist if Doom did not come out. Typically we the gamers would have to wait several years for the next game in a series to appear. Let alone hope it deserves the money and time that we put in too play the game. Now the wait time for a chapter of the main game is two to three months. I think that this approach to game making is managable as well fresh as opposed to waiting for halflife 3 to come out 4 years from now. But I digress from this point. The main game as well as episode one draw you in and makes the player feel that they are Gordon Freeman. Watching the characters interactions and facial expressions are quite entertaining and lends to the overall story line. This type of approach makes you pray that the next episode won't be delayed nor cancelled. Enjoy the game free of the critisims of episodic content and the Steam debate. Because truly it is a good game. Alright thats all I came to say.
Loved it, but... January 4, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Amazing game, loved every minute of it and a great addition to the story of HL2.
It brings together everything you know and love along with some very fun cinematic sequences and interesting puzzles.
I had some initial problems running it at first because of my graphics card, I'm currently running an ATIX800 XL and the game has a huge problem when I up the resolution from the recommended. Periodically the game will freeze and the audio will loop the last 0.5 seconds until either the visual feed just gives out, or my computer crashes altogether.
I fixed the problem by converting the graphics back to the recommended settings and it ran fine the whole way through.
It was short, but thats what you get from a 15 dollar game =)
Even with the short setback with the graphics, I loved Episode One and I can't wait for the second to arrive =D
Did not work January 1, 2007 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have a pretty honking PC but this "upgrade" wouldn't even run. Yech.
Could have waited... November 9, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For a cheap expansion on an already great game, it was exceptional... but not overly memorable from the original HL2. It could have simply been the ending instead of an Xpack.
It also could have been longer and had new weapons.
I think instead of making 3 epidosdes, they could have combined them into one and sold it that way.
Still a great buy and I am satisfied.
An excellent addition to the half life story! November 4, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a great game. Giving this game one star because your steam doesnt work for you is a bit harsh. How can you review a game without having played it?? Anyway, my steam works fine and I have never had any problems with it.
I though the game was fantastic and very engaging. The graphics were perfect, and so was the gameplay. All six hours it took to complete the game are filled with great battles or cool puzzle solving. Never a dull moment here!
It is definaltely worth the price tag!
