Fun & Addictive March 21, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Battlefield 2142 is by far the most addictive first person shooter I've ever played, and has a few things that make it unique. Most FPS games you play for awhile and have a great time, but at the end of the day accomplish nothing. However, BF2142 adds a lot of addictive elements that normally only RPG's and MMORPG's have. You have to earn Carrier Points (Experience Points) to earn military ranks, which in turn allows you to unlock new and better gear, that gives you an edge on the battlefield, or to fit your fighting style. There is also a separate ranking system that keeps track of every stat you can think of such as overall kills, deaths, accuracy, rounds fired, and hundreds of other statistics. You can then compare these stats with any other player, and see your rank with any specific weapon or vehicle, and try to be on top of the list. And i'm not talking just by round, but cumulative throughout your soldiers career. In my opinion this is the best feature of the game. Pros. Global Rank System Comprehensive Stats 16 Awesome Vehicles Large selection of weapons Excellent communications/squad system that encourages teamwork through chain of command. Very intense game play Good graphics, just a little out dated. Cons. Very Glitchy Many little imperfections that drive you crazy. Sometimes laggy game play in certain game modes and situations.
There are many annoyances in BF2142, but they are merely that, just little nuisances, and are by far outweighed by the many perks. In spite of these little imperfections this game is so intense and fun it's well worth playing and I highly recommend it.
Amazing Game (don't listen to the haters)- its like you're in the middle of a hi-tech war February 16, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I really don't understand the hate towards this game, this game is great. Let me put it this way, did you watch the movie 'Transformers' by Micheal Bay? Remember one of the first scenes where that Deceptacon (disguised as a US military helicopter) was totally destroying the military installation? This game sometimes feels like that because this game has nice powerful Mechs for you to play with and wreck havoc with.
I could go on and on about this game but I don't really have the time to write a detailed review.
But this game is amazing, especially if you have a computer that is up to snuff. I run it on high at 1280 x 800 (have edit the shortcut) with a 1.66ghz core 2 duo (minimum specs say '1.8ghz' but that's really only if you have a older, slower Pentium-4; the newer chip designs of Pentium-m or Core 2 Duo you should be able to run it fine with 1.6ghz or more), 2gb of ram (highly, highly recommended to run with 2gb's of ram, this game uses a lot of ram) and a Geforce 8600m GT (the most important component; make sure you have a good video card, integrated graphics are NOT going to cut it).
Another good game from EA January 31, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really respect, but don't understand the low rate on some reviews. I've been playing this game in my gaming clan =CRBF= and we really realyy enjoy it. Also the expansion is really cools and the new maps are awesome. EA has been working hard with patchs and updates. About the advertising and spyware that's a myth at the moment I'm writing this review.
The game play is really balanced and the unlock system is really cool, so you must be very consistent during the game to be able to unlock items upgrades and new items.
I really love the new cars and airships. Very easy to use and ground/air combat in this machines are really impressive.
I've played BF2 also, but I like more this BF 2142. Recommended.
A masterpiece, never mind the negative reviews January 21, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have spent several thousand hours playing this game. It is very well balanced, and endlessly challenging.
I once heard a scholar say that the Bible has wading pools for lambs to play in, and oceans so deep that whales could drown. He meant that the Bible's stories can be simple enough to entertain pre-schoolers, and complex enough to challenge the greatest minds.
In the same way, BF2142 can be entertaining your first game, and 1000 games later. Just shooting at people on your first battle is fun, and you can spend a lifetime trying to master all the complexities of the game. It features four classes, several vehicles, and two types of missions. And with multiplayer, each opponent is challenging in a way that artificial intelligence can never fully mimic.
The vast majority of the negative reviews on this site concentrate on the issues of "adware" and "spyware", which are perfectly valid concerns, but in this game are unwarranted. So what if the billboards in the game occaisionally say "Intel" on them? And if EA meant to install spyware, they apparently changed their mind or failed, because I have played this game for several hours a day for more than a year, and I have never had a problem or noticed anything. I'm sorry, but the rightous indignation over these issues will have to wait for another game.
And as far as the issues of "patches" go, yeah, it's annoying, but the quality of the game play more than makes up for it. There was a problem for a while with hackers and cheaters, but the patches fixed it. It was well worth any inconvienence. EA is to applauded, not scolded.
Never mind the politics, just buy it and have tons of gaming fun.
BF 2142 January 10, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I for one, have played several games with in the BF series. The original will always have a special place in my heart, but after trying BF 2142 I find it difficult to go back and play the others. I have played it here in the States as well as over seas and find it a good place to unwind, link up with bubbies, and just have fun blowing stuff up. Admittedly, I have had a few minor issues with Northern Strike, the expansion pack for BF 2142, but all in all I think it is an excellent game.
