Need a Fast PC December 22, 2005

I installed Streets and Trips and the GPS Locator on my old laptop (750Mhz, 192MB RAM, Win 2000) and it ran really really slow. I did not give this product a lower score because I liked the software. It did a nice job mapping routes, but the GPS part left a lot to be desired. I'm going to upgrade my computer soon so I'll update this post when that's done.

Get version 2006 instead December 13, 2005

This version does not have voice prompts to tell you directions or some of the other features you might expect. Microsoft now provides voice messages in version 2006 and it is cheaper than this version ($59-79 depending upon timing). It is worth the price if you have a laptop. Pocket Streets is disappointing. By the way, it is illegal to have your laptop open in the front seat in some states so don't get a ticket (they allow a normal GPS but not a laptop serving as a GPS...go figure). By the way, Microsoft does not give a discount to upgrade from version 2005 to 2006 so your only choice is to purchase a new product at full price.

Streets and Trips December 7, 2005

Streets and Trips has been a significant help in making our travel plans. We use it in conjunction with our Garmin 2720 GPS system and they are very complementary. The Garmin system doesn't use downloads from the laptop and Streets and Trips therefore allows us to do trip planning on a braosder scale at home. This is a very good program for trip planning.

Although I did not purchase this product from Amazon.com (...), I absolutely love it. The GPS locator provided is amazing and better than I thought it was. It is not one of those GPS that updates your position every 20 seconds or something, but when I zoomed in I could see my current location constantly moving on the map (so it is updating every second)...I have ridden with deputies in my county as part of an internship and the GPS provided to them isn't even this good. I recommend this software and GPS to anyone.

I am very satisfied with this product since it does every thing that Microsoft describes in their product description. I am also happy with the price at Amazon.com since I saved about 30% of the advertised retail price.
