3 out of 5 stars Fun and also Frustrating   June 2, 2008
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

Its a large game and while you should give it a chance I would say that its expansion packs are much better. While the game is incredibly complex and very time consuming it can be incredibly frustrating. The cities do have their own individual stamp and you will have a lot of fun running around adventuring but after you run around some caves and kill some zombies.

The main problem with this game is the shear size of the environment you will often have to haul something incredibly valuable like heather or golden kornet across half the continent.

Another problem that I had with the was the fact that while the cities have a distinct look of their own in the countryside there is no way to distinguish from one anonymous cave to another.

My final problem with the game is that while you have the option to take multiple quests to take over the various guilds when you win and after you have put all your effort into the quests the only reward you get is a bunch of people going "Yes Master" and "How can I be of assistance Master?"

Overall-While it can sometimes be very fun especially the expansion packs the combat can be awkward and the daring hikes over long distances will get really old really fast. Make sure you have a top of the line system it can cause problems in the form of frustrating load times.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting addition to any role player's collection   March 29, 2008
This game is a predecessor to Oblivion, this game is in either first or third person perspective, and although the graphics are dated if you want to play an rpg that has a good length and has a wealth of user made content this game is something you need to look into.

3 out of 5 stars No map and a cracked case.   March 24, 2008
My case was cracked and there was no map ... NO MAP. I can deal with a cracked case, I can deal with the manual being in a PDF although I would've preferred the booklet other people got. But NO MAP, shame on you Ubisoft and shame on Amazon for showing a different version of this game on the ad. The one I got has Ubisoft on the box (Bethesda probably got them to distribute it at some point) and the one they show in the picture is the original Bethesda box which I know has a paper manual and a MAP. I found a map on Ebay for a few dollars ... but I should not of had to.

That being said, The Elder Scrolls are 5 star games ... see rating for "how much fun is this game" ... whether if its Daggerfall, Morrowind, or Oblivion (I never played Arena) The Elder Scrolls are maybe the only 5 star RPGs out there. Not since Lord British's original Ultima series (I-VI, way before EA bought out Origin Systems and made it Ultima Online) has there been such an engrossing computer RPG. If you like single player (this is NOT an MMO) and totally modable RPGs (there are still new mods coming out for Morrowind and it was '02 ... '03 for GOTY version) then you will love The Elder Scrolls whether if its Morrowind or Oblivion.

5 out of 5 stars A truely epic game!   March 21, 2008
I've played this game for well over a year now and I still haven't finished it. There is so much to do, so many options, so many quests, so many characters you can play!!! There is also a great support forum online, filled with lots friendly gamers who are happy to help you out if you get stuck. I've played other RPG's but this is and will probably always be, my favorite game!

Sadly, they don't make epic games like this much anymore. Hey, what company wants you to play the same game for a year? So, do yourself a favor and buy this game before it's gone for good!

5 out of 5 stars Classic at Least   February 16, 2008
One of the most, if not THE most, expansive and intricate games of all time. A must buy for all fans of the RPG genre. The best part is, if you don't like parts of the game use the Construction Set (included) to fix or rebuild anything!
