Double Strum!!! December 18, 2008 Awesome addition! Longer then a standard RB guitar. Takes a little getting used to, and the whammy bar has been replaced by a knob which is akward (however more realistic for bass playing) Fully recommend buying this (and it works for both RB1 and RB2, not sure of about GH)
Wired. December 17, 2008 I really enjoy my Bass. The only problem I've had is that the Tuning Knob nearest to the frets broke off within 2 days of purchasing it. That has no effect on function, so I can deal with it.
Whammy Knob. When I first got the controller I never used it. Now that I have a feel for the layout of the Bass I find the knob quickly and manage to get back to the strum bar in time for my next notes. The Thumb Rest above the whammy bar helps ensure correct finger positioning after the trip. I do sometimes miss-strum with my palm on my way down to or up from the Whammy Knob though. The texture of the knob tends to rub the sides of my fingers raw on the more whammy intensive sets.
This controller is WIRED. Which is fairly obvious from the pictures here on Amazon, but not obvious from the pictures on the box. I don't think the front of the box even mentions that it is Wired. I'm really considering cannibalizing a RB Wireless controller for parts. I want my Bass to be Wireless fairly badly. I'll probably try to add a Bar to the Whammy Knob so my hand doesn't need to travel as far.
I've already gone through two of them... December 12, 2008 I'm not really sure when this bass came out but I know it hasn't been that long. I received this as a gift for my birthday and I was very excited. After playing with it and getting used to the strum bar I got pretty good at it...that is until all of the buttons went out less than a week later. In and out of gameplay the buttons stopped working.
I took it back and got a second bass guitar. That one worked for one day! When I went to play it for a second day all of my buttons worked outside of gameplay (I could navigate through menus, change songs, etc.) but during a song all my buttons wouldn't work. Both my top buttons and solo buttons had the problem.
I'm getting my third one for Christmas. I'm not hard on my guitars unless you consider playing the game hard on it. I would recommend staying away from this bass until MadCatz gets their act together. This is a great idea for a peripheral but it definitely has kinks.
doesn't perform as advertised November 27, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This guitar isn't as good as I expected it to be.
the longer neck only succeds in being more "wabbly" than the original because it's made of the same material and not reinforced in any way. The headsock seemed loose too; at least moreso than the stock RB guitar.
The strumbar, while being very study and satisying, doesn't work very well with the two-finger bass style it's going for... the angle is off - For me, when i play a bass my hand is at an angle from where it sits on the guitar. but the strum bar on this is perpendicular like all the other RB guitar strumbars. This works great for normal play, but not well at all for the "bass style" play that the guitar is made for, using the thumbrest.
I returned this guitar after one day of gameplay.
Fender Bass November 2, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This peripheral is in all ways superior to the fender strat that comes with RockBand. It's heavier and far more sturdily built, which has always been a big problem with guitar controllers. It's also bigger, which is great if you don't have tiny arms. The two strum bars are probably my favourite part, which allows you to strum more authentically and doubles your speed. Some people might find the changes to the whammy bar and start/select buttons a little tough to get used to, since now all functions of the guitar have been turned into knobs, but it is a reasonable change.
Oh, and the tuning pegs actually turn!
