5 out of 5 stars BEST GAME EVER   November 9, 2008
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

Seriously, if I could make love to a video game, I'd never get out of bed with COD4. This game = pure joy. I've played the COD:WAW beta, and trust me, COD4 blows its socks off. Infinity Ward are great developers. Treyarch wishes they could be IW.

5 out of 5 stars MULTIPLAYER MAYHEM   November 3, 2008
It's late in the afternoon and a clear twilight has descended upon the District. A fine mist of tension, excitement and anticipation hangs in the air. My M16 assault riffle with red tiger camouflage is unlocked and loaded, a desert eagle pistol hangs from my hip and three hand grenades are ready to unleash destruction. My palms are sweaty, my heart is pumping above its normal rate, there's trash talk in the multiplayer lobby and we're five seconds from starting the game. My hands hold the controller like a life raft on high sea and the sound system's volume is up, waaaaay up according to my wife.

This is Ground War, Team Deathmatch among eighteen people connected online and divided in two teams. There can only be one winner.

My teammates are a curious bunch: one is armed with a heavy machine gun; another one is holding a semiautomatic shotgun; two more are carrying sniper rifles; one has an M14 assault rifle and an RPG on his back. Some have submachine guns, AIG scopes, etc. Name it we have it. We're ready. The other team is ready. There will be mayhem.

There's a time limit in the game but the combat will be so intense, bloody and fast paced, with such an assortment of deadly weapons that it'll be decided in the alleys, back streets, inside buildings and the market in the middle of the District map. No need to time-limit us.

Well into the game and after being hit in the chest by an RPG I respawn inside a building. Through the window I can see what looks like an ice cream truck. An enemy helicopter gunship hovers overhead shooting .50 rounds at any one who moves. A friendly squadron of jet fighters had just dropped their cluster bombs on the street west of the market spreading misery among the opposing force. The match is even and the score limit is within sight.

I leave the building through a side door, flank the ice cream truck look-alike, climb a flight of stairs, ducking I sneak through a back alley, pass a couple dumpsters and end up hiding behind a run down gas station in a corner of the map. From there I can clearly see the enemy players. I unleash all my three grenades and while sprinting towards them I start shooting my M16 from the hip. The enemy helicopter has just been shot down and I take enemy fire, I'm wounded, everything around me turns red and I can see the blood vessels in my own eyes, I may not make it...

I jump from the coach like an Olympic athlete and yell out loud "YEAAAHHH!!" from the top of my lungs. My team has *barely* won the match but won nonetheless. I manage to get slightly more kills than deaths and a sense of awesomeness invades myself. I talk trash with the other players, dry my hands against my pants, sit back on the edge of my couch ready yet for another game and even though I've been playing for a while I feel I'm just starting to warm up.
My wife walks in the room and gives me the look of "for the 10th time stop yelling that you're going to wake up the neighbors!". We both laugh. I know it's time to go to bed if I want to make it to that early meeting tomorrow morning at the office.

It's been a year since I got COD4 and five stars fall short when rating this game. The best FPS ever in the history of human kind has been COD4.

Buy it, rent it, steal it, burn it or do whatever it takes to put your hands on this game and play it! play it! play it! C-U on the battlefield.

5 out of 5 stars After Playing I'm thinking of joining the United States Marines   October 27, 2008
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Is by far one of the best games I have every played for the Xbox 360. I didn't think it would live up to hype so I rented it first. Kept it two weeks over due then went to Gamestop and bought it. I have gotten my $60.00 worth .The graphics are excellent and the controls are tight. The story is good for a war shooter game. I am so glad Infinity Ward made a modern warfare game, instead on another WWII game. I have nothing against them, but I was a big Medal of Honor player when it was on the PS1, so I am kind of getting tired of this concept, and the crappy guns. In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare it brings in a believe story which is interesting the campaign is good and challenging especially the last final mission (High Mile Club good luck beating it on Veteran)

This is also one of the most completive multiplayer game I have every played. Multiplayer is where the game really shines as there is a lot of modes to play in. My personal favorite is Domination (it's a great mode to perfecta your aiming skills.) But there are other modes such as one on one, team death match, and etc. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a perfect FPS for the Xbox 360, and for someone that has both consoles (PS3 and XBOX 360). If you are deciding which system to get it for, I would suggest getting it for the Xbox 360. I have play the PS3 version, the graphics are the same and the sound is the same, but to me it felt better on the Xbox 360 as FPS shooters typically control better for the 360. Ergo Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3. But it still a great game for the PS3 just takes a while to handle. Also if you're an achievement hound then the Xbox 360 is the way to go anyway. This is the first time I played a Call of Duty game so I hope the rest are just as good.
So to sum this up, just buy this game you won't be mad and the replay value is very high, I bought it last November and I'm still playing it. Now please excuse me I have someone sending me an invite to play COD4.

4 out of 5 stars Great Game but not the best   October 16, 2008
I have played every call of duty game and this is by far the best game. The fighting sequences are fun and interesting. The graphics and battle effects are very well done.
I only have 2 complaints with this game. Like many people whos reviews I have read the friendly fire issue is an annoyance. I found myself shooting my own people far too often but at a distance they look just like the enemy. The other complaint are the attack dogs. I seemed to do ok if I shot them from a distance but if they closed the gap I was killed 9 out of 10 times. It got to be quite annoying getting killed by the same dog over and over again. The game is well worth playing and I still recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Game! and this is from a Clancy Fan!!!   October 16, 2008
I am a stealth Clancy gamer when I play shooting games, but I liked the change of pace that is Call of Duty 4! I like the fast pace, almost no time to think reaction of the story modes. Also the online gameplay is classic. However, online gameplay adds a bit more advantage and disadvantage from some ppl who do not equip themselves correctly.

Online, some people may have more health than you, or stronger. Sometimes head shots do not work either. That may be due to them equipping themselves with more life or a glitch.

All around great story mode and online gaming...I only play this game and Burnout Paradise these days!@!!
