Great for FPS fans, and old skool Unrealers alike. December 14, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I picked this game up yesterday, as I was skeptical about it, I enjoyed COD4 immensley, and I must say, as far as online play, this game is on par or better than everything out at the moment. The graphics put even its Gears of War brethren to shame. (Although a couple of the characters resemble GOW characters alot, I think Othello's voice is the same as the Cole-trains) Realistically speaking about online, if you have never played Unreal before, practice first, because the Unreal players of old and new, play hard and play for keeps, these guys dont mess around.
This game is great, although I can see how it would get repetitive, as no team really has any advantage other than experience playing. No real weapon advantages, everyone runs and plays at the same speed. So essentially the bigger guys are just as fast as the female characters with less armor. No class selection of any kind.
When you fire the game up, it will scream Gears of war, but it plays as a standard FPS. Combat is fast and intense, get ready for a real fight.
I highly recommend this game, to all PS3 players, and PC players alike. This game is excellent, especially if you are getting a little burnt out on COD4. Have fun, and fight on!
Prepare for battle! December 14, 2007 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
This game is a must-own online multiplayer FPS & its amazing on every level but be warned, if you're spoiled by the slow pace of Halo 3 or COD & expect to have time to set up your 5 minute sniper rifle shot while drinking a cup of coffee you will hate this game with a passion. The pace is fast & furious & relentless. The whole point of the game is to not shoot at your opponent but where you think he or she might be(What folks who suck at this game call "random shooting"). If you have quick reflexes & good hand eye coordination & you're looking for a game thats just one big adrenaline rush then here is the best game you will ever play.
No offline multiplayer support December 13, 2007 5 out of 27 found this review helpful
This game lacks offline multiplayer support. At the time of purchase, I was not aware of this, nor were many other folks who were disheartened to find out (after opening the game).
For this reason, and this reason alone, I am rating it a 1. If you only want to play against folks online, then I'd say it's a 5.
Great Game with REAL mouse and Keyboard support! December 12, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
What more can I say? The graphics are perfect, the gameplay is exquisite and the amount of weapons available are insane. One of the best multiplayer games out for the PS3 barnone.
Unexpectedly Unreal. December 12, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've played quite a few first-person shooters in my day, dating back to Quake on PC in the early 90's. The Unreal Tournament series came along and sort of upped the bar in a way. The game is VERY fast paced compared to many on the market.
I bought this game expecting a decent experience, but was surprised at how vivid the graphics are (constant 60 fps thus far @ 1080p.) The single player story is mediocre at best, but the gameplay is out of this world. It really does get your adrenaline pumping. The slew of guns, vehicles, and characters really help the game transcend the list of PS3 games heading for the bargain bin at the Dollar Tree.
If you're looking for something different than the Orange Box and TF2 (all fans of first-person shooters should own a copy of that as well), then give this a try. It should hold us over till Haze drops in February. I pray that it lives up to the hype.
