Not bad May 29, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
Not, a bit confusing at times but is you like games like Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter then this game will do. Also I don't recommend playing it more than once by yourself...the online feature is fun though!
Could have been a lot better... May 29, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had been waiting rather impatiently for 'Haze' to finally hit the shelves, but I was hoping for a little more. That being said, this isn't a complete waste of time...or money. Essentially, the idea behind 'Haze' was really quite good but the developers put the "Finished" stamp on it too quickly.
PROS: Gameplay - Like I said, it was a unique idea. The game was pretty fun.
Co-op - Four player co-op (2 via split screen, 2 via LAN or Playstation Network.) More games need to have co-op and Free Radical knows it. It would have been nice to have 4 player split screen co-op, but this is a start.
Multi-player - Fun, unique levels and gameplay. Uses the same in-game options and gameplay feel as the campaign mode.
CONS: Story - Not very good, but enough of a basic plot to keep you interested.
Script/Dialog - Really, really needed some help. One of the weakest parts of the game, even bordering on laughable at times. The voiceovers were also really annoying, particularly for the Mantel troops.
AI - Not too smart. Often they seem to be daydreaming, even when they should be looking right at you. Another thing is they are all programed with identical movements, at least at times. For example, if you throw a grenade into a group of enemies, they will most likely all dive the same direction at the same time, do the same tuck and roll and stand up at the same time.
Graphics - Generally speaking, not too bad but I would expect more from a next-gen game. Parts of it were decent but there were parts of the game that were obviously rushed through.
All in all, 'Haze' is decent. It is not as bad as the critics say, but not as good as the fanboys claim. It could have been a really great game but simply put, Free Radical really needed to have polished a few things up to make 'Haze' shine.
It's alot of fun, judge for yourself May 28, 2008 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have never trusted sites like IGN, or any that review video games. I don't trust ANY reviews. I try a game out for myself and if I like it, I like it. How is a reviewer ever going to know my tastes? What gives them the power to make or break a good game?
Having said that, I thought this game was alot of fun and am very glad I purchased it. There are tons of moments of extreme action all around you, the story is great, graphics are excellent, the soundtrack is awesome, Online Coop is excellent, framerates are very smooth, this is a winner in my book. As I said, do yourself a favor in the gaming world and forget the gaming website reviews, have some originality and judge for yourself, you may find many games you love that the "reviewers" never did. I sure have.
Great game, but has some downfalls May 28, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The game reviews for this game say that it is horrible, but despite what reviewers said, I rushed to go get it, and I'm very glad that I did, this game is really good. The storyline is actually really good, and has a lot of twists to it. THe gameplay is good also. This game has split screen co-op AND multiplayer. The online multiplayer is really awesome, especially with all of the different abilities each side has. It's really fun. The graphics aren't exactly great, but they're alright. The A.I. is kinda dumb, but it's NOT that bad. All in all, haze is a really good game with an intriguing storyline and good gameplay mechanics.
overhyped garbage May 27, 2008 7 out of 15 found this review helpful
At one point in the game an enemy shot a barrel near me causing me to catch fire. The on screen prompt said to shake Sixaxis to extinguish the flames. No mater how gently or violently I shook, twisted or moved the controller could I put out the fire. To make matters worse, I had just passed a checkpoint, so every time I died and respawned, I was on fire. After ten minutes of this, I restarted the level and learned not to play with fire. This scenario was very commonplace. Set on fire, die and try over. Just one of the glitches in a horribly buggy game. Terrible A.I., Horrendous voice acting which doesn't even match up in co-op, forgettable story and bland under texturized graphics. In all fairness I did find some fun in the game. Great moments like defending the villiage in the chopper or the assault on the landcruiser had me buzzing momentarily but were too short lived. I would probably give maybe one more star but the frustrations and the hope I had for the game crushed that.
