2 out of 5 stars Not-So-Mortal Kombat   December 31, 2008
I realize that video game development is first and foremost a business, however that does not make it excusable for Midway to turn the beloved over-the-top ridiculous-violent theme and turn it into a kids game just to earn the "T" rating, enabling another market (<17) to purchase the game. I understand that the DC Heroes do not kill, and I wouldn't have it any other way. But for the Joker to pull out a gun and drop the hammer on an opponent that isn't even on-screen, leaving the patented MK gore up to your imagination... Lame.

I rented this game instead of buying it, knowing it was a dumbed down version of Mortal Kombat. I still feel ripped off over my $5 investment at Family Video.

"Don't Finish Him!"

4 out of 5 stars Good game, too many glitches.   December 31, 2008
As stated, this game has a wide amount of annoying glitches that will hopefully be patched up later on.

So, obviously, story comes first. The idea of taking two universes that are very different and fusing them together seems a little far fetched. They should have put a little more thought into it, I mean, the whole "We both screwed up a portal at the same time caused our galaxies to fuse together" is a little... well, it lacks a good idea. And the dialogue is so-so. Most o f the voices are good for not having the original cast. The only one I have a bit to complain about it Batman. KEVIN CONROY IS THE VOICE OF BATMAN. The guy who did Batman's voice in this was just... It was good, but it just wasn't Batman.

Okay, gameplay. The gameplay is fantastic. Several special moves, two fatalaties per character, and twenty-two characters (Two are unlocks with no fatalaties), a Story mode, Arcade mode, Online, and Kombo challenge. What's not to want?

But... Here's where things get a bit annoying. They really need to work on the trophies. So, I beat both sides of story mode. Get the two bronze trophies. Surprise, I don't get the golden one for beating both. What's worse, it didn't give me the two unlockable characters. I went back and played the ending at least five times for each side. Didn't give them to me. I played through Arcade mode with all the DC characters, it said I am missing three endings. Went back and played one through twice, didn't give me the ending. I marked ALL the fatalaties on a paper. I did them all. No trophy.

Overall, it's a fun game, but needs to be patched. I'm giving this four out of five, in hopes of a patch. If you're iffy about this game, wait until you hear about a patch for it, THEN get it. But the gameplay is so great that I'm going to buy this soon (I only rented it, but I played it for a long time.)

3 out of 5 stars Fun but a little too toned down   December 30, 2008
The game is fun to play and controls well. Online play works well. My only complaint is it is too toned down and loses what was fun about Mortal Kombat. Bloody Fatalities. At least give us the option for it. Don't get me wrong it is fun to play, but I will be trading this one in soon. After looking forward to what seemed like a great new version of Mortal Kombat to play, what is lacking in the game is what made it for me in the past.

5 out of 5 stars Blew away my expectations   December 29, 2008
Let me start out by saying that when I heard about this game I thought it would be very cheezy. The idea that all of these characters could fight each other just seemed absurd (superman vs batman?). I was never really into DC comics, kind of liked Mortal Kombat but never a huge fan of fighting games in general.

Then, I picked up this game. Normally i can play around 10 minutes of a fighting game and get bored, but my friend and I found we couldn't stop and ended up playing all night. The fighting mechanics are superb. The feeling of knocking your opponent around, breaking surrounding objects or walls brings a very addictive quality to the game. The DC characters have really nice, thought out powers and moves. The new combat additions such as the free-falling do really feel like they are revitalizing the genre and bring an exciting quality to the game.

Best of all, if you're stuck playing single player, the story mode is actually fun (unlike most fighting games)! It's very long, has tons of cutscenes, and actually tells a decent story.

I now consider this one a must-have, especially for those that ocasionally have guests over that want to play a game. They won't be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Writers take note!!!! Absolutely brilliant!!!   December 27, 2008
Absolutely brilliant on multiple levels of artistic excellence! A wonderful and compelling addition to an already radiant series.

My highest recommendation!
