Beatiful 2D November 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wario Land Shake It!, its a beatiful 2D game to enjoy if you are a true gamer. The best thing about this tittle its the scenarios (backgrounds), and off course the character, Wario, who is very funny. The game is funny, entertaint, but not to challenging, the task s in every stage are pretty much the same.
Not a true retro game November 20, 2008 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
First of all let me say that I am a 2d game aficionado. I have collections of 2d games that I cherish. This game I had high hopes for, but it is really an adventure game disguised as a platformer. Most platform games do not have you looking for objects in order to open up other levels. I enjoyed the platforming aspects, but I hate that if I finished a level and did not pick up a hidden treasure, I had to go back in the level to find the object. I am still waiting to get a new Super Mario Bros for the Wii. I really enjoyed the one on the DS.
Beautiful 2-D Platform Action for Wii November 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's hard to find a 2D game these days that isn't from the bargain bin or just shoddy. This is how a next gen platformer should look. Nintendo has outdone themselves with the look of Wario. The animation is fluid and top notch, the colors bright and vivid, and backgrounds are wonderfully varied. The music is fantastic, and varies by each level. It sets the mood quite well for each level. The game overall is not extremely difficult to play, with a few tough spots. Wario has unlimited lives but must watch his life gauge. Boss battles are large and entertaining, and there is a good variety of levels. Overall the game is not extremely long, five worlds overall. That's good though, as I think the game would lose its appeal if it was too long. The concept is fun. Play the level and rescue the little creatures, then quickly rush back to the start before the timer hits zero. There's plenty of replay and great challenge for completionists. Finding all the treasures, completing the challenges, and finding hidden levels will keep most busy for quite awhile. A straight playthrough can be finished in a few hours. If you are craving a good action game that is quick and easy to pick up and play, go no further.
Polished game that needs just a bit more length November 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wario Land: Shake It! is a game with true style. Hand drawn graphics and constant humor give this title a charm all it's own. While many have remarked on it's bland music, I actually found it to be quite appealing. It fits the game perfectly and even sets the proper mood on certain stages. The Wii Remote controls work as they should and you are never at a loss on how to use them. The only negative thing I can say about this game is that it's rather short. If you don't really care about completing challenges and unlocking soundtracks, then you can finish the game in about 4-5 hours. I'd advise you to at least look for the treasures on each level. They are typically humorous and worth the giggle you will receive. All in all, an excellent game that might have sold a bit better if it were priced at [............]
Wario Land: Shake It!
For Casual Gamers who Enjoy Fun 2D Platformers October 23, 2008 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I purchased WarioLand ShakeIt! primarily because I'm a fan of old school 2D platform games. The Nintendo Wii was the first console I've owned since the Super Nintendo. This game harkens back to the days of yore, when games were fun and engaging.
WarioLand ShakeIt! features excellent graphics, catchy soundtrack tunes, and more importantly, engaging playability. The game uses the Wii controller at key points throughout the game. The level of control in using the controller can range from intuitive (shaking coin bags) to downright frustrating (controlling a unicycle). This is part of the challenge of the game. With practice, I expect to have more command over some of the controls.
The game serves as a perfect introduction for people who like casual gaming. There is an introductory level where you can practice techniques to get a feel for the game mechanics.
Each stage of the game includes several missions, which are above and beyond the task of clearing the level. These missions are challenging, and will require multiple replays to clear. That's part of the fun this game has.
I'm working my way through the game methodically - playing each level and trying to complete each mission before moving along. I've had this game for almost 3 weeks now, and it's still as fun and engaging now as it was when I first purchased it.
Advanced gamers may be quick to put this game down (I've heard reviews complain of the game's short length -pegged at 6 hours or so) - but I think there's really more here (especially with the missions) that makes the game a true challenge.
Do I enjoy WarioLand: ShakeIt? Yes, wholeheartedly. Would I buy this game again? Absolutely.
