Great Fun for everyone February 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Parental note: There is no blood whatsoever in this game, except on the cover, but a fair amount of violence. IT dosent subtract from the game at all though. Basicly if you like this type of game, getIT.
Graphics: A- pretty great with a few small flaws. Love destructable environments
Controls: A++++++ Nothing to say
Sound: A+ Great use of sound from wii remote
Fun: A+++++ Definetly
Total:A- few annoying glitches aside this game is a great game, varried and fun. There are two different plot endings, and a whole lot of adventure

Awesome game..if you can get your Wii remote to function. February 6, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Wii. It's an awesome console. Instead of concentrating on the latest and greatest in graphics and technicality, Nintendo's Wii was and is rather (attempting to) boast a "revolutionary" new controller and gameplay style, which is a refreshing idea itself. The controller design is a good idea, as it's more "realistic" than the PS3's and 360's, seeing as how it takes advantage of the Wii's motion sensor. Any movement you make (in most games, like "Red Steel" and "Wii Sports"), the same happens on screen.
I think out of all of the Wii games that I've played so far, "Red Steel" is the most entertaining, and it has a lot of promise..but it gives off the worst impression of the Wii remote. Ever. If you guessed that I'd be complaining about this game's controls, well, you're right. Oh, and by the way, YES, I DO HAVE THE SENSOR BAR in the appropriate place (in front of the TV, and it's aimed at where I sit to play games and watch television). Quite frankly, the controls are way too damn sensitive. Maybe it's the remote I use to play with (although I have it calibrated, and it works fine, otherwise, e.g. Super Mario Galaxy, Battalion Wars 2, Wii Sports, etc.), but every time I attempt to play this game, I have to put it on the lowest sensitivity possible, otherwise, I find myself spinning around in circles, and getting shot at. The controls take time to master, I suppose, but they can "get stuck", and can be very frustrating for a gamer, or heck, anyone, for that matter. Not to mention that when the controls get stuck in "turn left" or "turn right" mode, it can be almost impossible to get back to controlling "normally".
=(
I hope this sensitivity problem is under more control, or better yet, FIXED in "Red Steel 2", which is coming out in 2008.
Better luck next time, Nintendo and Ubisoft.
Find your inner Flailing Hamster January 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game has a lot of promise, but the controls are painfully bad. I cannot fathom how many 5-star reviews this has received, especially when many of them comment on how the controls are difficult to master, can get stuck, and can be very frustrating. Not to mention that when the controls get stuck in "turn left" or "turn right" mode, it can be nauseating to watch.
Personally, I'm simply not interested in spending hours mastering the basics of a game that should be intuitive. Using the Wii controller to imitate swinging a sword should be completely natural. In this game it is just the opposite. Part of the problem is that they put both the camera "look direction" control and the sword control on the controller, and they don't play nicely together. It ends up that you have to use what I think of as the "flailing hamster" mode to swordfight, and that takes all the fun out of it.
The gunplay is mediocre. I've played much better on the PS2, and am spoiled by the GTA series to the point that I expect the aiming mechanism to be just as fluid and simple.
The graphics are surprisingly dated. Again, they're weak compared to the typical PS2 FPS. I don't really care about "pretty" graphics, but these are poor enough to deserve mention.
It could be that this game really needs a standard PS or XBox type controller, with lots of buttons and two joysticks. Too bad. It would be a fun game. I'm really looking forward to the Wii game where I can put down the shotguns, Uzis, and BFGs and just hack at a few bad guys with a sword.
My advice: Save your money and wait for something better.
Fun Only One Time Through January 3, 2008 I bought this game a little while back even before I had a Wii. It seemed like the only shooter that was good for the Wii other than Call of Duty 3. The game itself was really fun the first time I played it. After awhile, though, it starts to slow down. The gun controls were very good, especially when using pistols and other small weapons. The sword fighting is another story. At first it is pretty fun, but you soon begin to dread this "minigame". They try to make it interesting with "Respect Points", but you can't even use these points to buy anything. In the end, this is a respectable game and will help people grasp the shooting controls of the Wii and have a little fun in between.
P.S. I personally would suggest The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or Call of Duty 3 over this game, but that's just me.
