Fun and familiar, but could've been better December 26, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm a fan of Cruis'n series and yes this game IS fun. But the garage lacks a lot of features i was expecting to see. the graphics are JUST OKAY, considering this is a 2007 game on a Wii... could have been better. graphics are not better than even on N64. very simple and cartoony. i'm from San Francisco however, so that's the reason i love cruis'n games because there are always a lot of SF environments. overall game is fun! SUPER SLOW loading time to start a race for a WII!!! other games i own load in seconds, this loads like need for speed on a PS (hate that aspect). and it's NOT difficult at all... my friend and I almost beat the whole game on our first day of playing it.
This game is fun December 19, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
A few years ago, every arcade had a 'cruis'n' game in it where you sat in a drivers seat, pushed the gas and brake pedals, and steered around courses. And there was the Nintendo 64 version ('cruis'n usa') back in 1996 that was pretty good. Now, here it is on Wii. Amazing. The game uses wiimote steering pretty good but they didn't rewrite the graphics much from the Nintendo 64 although there is a little more detail. But...the game is just fun for some hard-to-define reason and it's great that they put out a Wii version...for 2 players. Would have been better if there were 4 players, though.
Set gaming back 20 years December 16, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Midway's new version of Cruis'n set gaming back 20 years. With their corny cliches of hip hop style music with annoying evil laughs, and the stereotype that only men would be playing the game. At least give us the option of making the group of pixelated 8 bit women go away. Most of the game makers, at this point had discovered that women like to play the racing games too, and not just the games ending in the word "Kart". So minus a star for that.
Not only are the extra graphics of women unnecessary and poorly made, but they slow the game down, as does a lot of the extra graphics. The details are nice, but only if the game system can handle it. There are some other game glitches, but aren't so bad that it makes the game unplayable. They will just leave you wondering how your car jumped from one place to another. Minus another star for graphics and minor glitches.
Overall, the game concept is fun, once you get used to controlling it. So don't give up on your first few tries. It DOES get easier, and can become addictive. You get to unlock new tracks, and new cars when you reach your goals. And some of the stunts that learn to do are fun and challenging. Not so difficult that you don't play either. Choosing a car, the color, and customizing the car are nice features as well. From the first day placing 7th and 8th, to placing 1st and 2nd on the second day. There are levels of difficulty also. If you want to stick to easy until you get comfortable with the controls, that option is available.
If you can forget everything you remember and loved about the original Cruis'n games, and allow yourself to feel you are playing a brand new game, then you will be more satisfied with this game.
Fun Gameplay with good Wii controls December 12, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Cruis'n is a fun racing game. There are many license cars to drive, upgrade, and unlock. You race through a variety of well designed tracks perfectly suited for this type of game with huge jumps, wild turns, shortcuts and a ton of objects and buildings to drive or crash through. Some of the tracks have landmarks that are recognizable like the Statue of Liberty, Goldengate Bridge, and Lombard Street.
The cars drive really fast and control well using the Nintendo Wii motion control. It's fun to perform wheelies and flips while racing. The load times can be long, but the fun gameplay makes up for it.
If you are a fan of the Cruis'n series or just a casual gamer looking for a simplistic racing game, than I wouldn't hesitate to pick this one up.
Disappointing December 10, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Anyone familiar with Midway's Cruis'n series in the arcades and the Nintendo 64 will find that Cruis'n for the Wii retains almost none of the fun gameplay elements that the previous games in the series possessed. Cruis'n bears little resemblance to the aforementioned games, as it features some incredibly dated graphics, a static interface, and above all, a barrage of technical issues. These technical issues range from long load times and a variety of bugs and glitches to be found among the boring and all-too similar race tracks that are featured here. What is also worth noting is that the Wii-mote controls aren't actually half-bad here and are pretty responsive overall, but they can't save Cruis'n from the fate that it's been given. All in all, Cruis'n may be worth a look or a rental for Wii owners looking for an arcade racer or fans of Midway's Cruis'n series, but everyone else can easily avoid it.
