a great peripheral if you need it April 25, 2008 if you do a lot of text based messaging over Live, then you simply need this add on. if you don't, then not so much..save your 30 bucks.
the chat pad is well made, sturdy and durable. it works well and is very intuitive, though someone in a review mentioned the "backspace" button is oddly placed, and i agree. the backlit keys were a bonus i wasn't expecting, and it fits almost seamlessly with the controller.
all in all, i'm not saying you need this product, but you'll love having it around
Great Product!!!! April 24, 2008 I am very happy with this. Got it today and used it almost all day. Will be using it again.
Great product, but check your other accessories March 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This communicator makes typing a breeze and comes with a standard wired headset.
PROS - Back lit Keyboard for typing in the dark - Click feedback on keys - Very very light adds almost no weight to the controller - comfortable - solid construction
CONS - you almost have to force it on the controller - only has 1/8 jack for headset it removes the power pins. I have a Turtle Beach Earforce X3 headset that requires the 3 connections and I cannot use it with this device attached. This would have gotten 5 stars IF they included all connectors on the back end of this device.
Great add-on for the controller. March 17, 2008 I wasn't really thinking about buying this accessory until I needed a new headset. Since this was about 10$ extra to get "with" the headset, I just went for it.
At first it just seemed like added weight and bulkiness but I got used to it pretty quick. I use my MSN messenger through XBOX live, and with this I end up IM'ing with my friends when I am waiting in lobby for a game to start. Moreover, if you play Call of Duty 4 and tend to rename your classes a lot this definitely comes in handy as you have 30 seconds between games to do so. While I understand that it is WAY more comfortable to use a standalone keyboard, it is just a nifty accessory with a quick and non interruptive action.
NOW for the main reason I really got excited for this accessory, which is the following: I heard that in the long run designers can utilize this for their games. For example, in Mass Effect it really irritated people how the game needed to be paused in order to switch, for example, biotic abilities. This was simply because they ran out of controller buttons to perform a cycle or switch. With the added controls of a QWERTY keyboard into your palms, I think RPG's will be more fun as now designers can allow you to hotkey your abilities. I am sure a patch for Mass Effect isn't too far fetched for this anyway, and upcoming games like EndWar could really use this. There is a long discussion on Bioware's Mass Effect forum for this if you are interested.
One final note is I like the new headset design. The mic on/off switch kept breaking on the older models for me, and this one is away from the controller and seems to be more elegant and durable.
C O O L March 12, 2008 Cool, just plain cool. It even lights up! Put this on an Xbox 360 Elite black controller and worked with no problems.
