4 out of 5 stars Good game, just not as good as its cracked up to be.   April 16, 2008
Lets get the obvious out of the way, yes the game is overrated. With all of the hype and hope that went into this game, and with the responsibility of the beginning life of the 360 resting on its shoulders its going to be overrated. Ok, now for some actual reviewing. The graphics are gorgeous, although they did use some cheap tricks like pre-rendered backgrounds and only using three colors to make it look better than it really should, but it still gives the effect of looking good, which is all that really matters. The sound for the guns and explosions was good. For the life of me I can't even remember the music, which can't really be saying a good thing about it now can it? The storyline is kind of a ripoff of the two biggest shooters of our time. It is essentially Killzone meets Halo, but in all honesty its a shooter, story is nice to have, but is not a necessity. Plus these days, it is nearly impossible to come up with an idea that hasn't already been used. The action is pretty fun and the cover system works very well. There are some good deteriorating effects on the cover as well. The multi player is interesting at first, but gets boring fast. All in all I liked this game. If you want a solid, well put together shooter with nice graphics and a fun campaign, then I recommend you at least try it if you have a Xbox 360 or a good PC.

5 out of 5 stars Just out there   April 14, 2008
Although it took some getting used to the playing format I reallly got into it. It took awhile to play on the easy level so I am excited about the harder levels on the game. You just have to play it to see for your self. I will definitly buy the next generation of this game.

people, this is the most visually pleasing game out there. It has great weapons, control scheme, and sound. I know how people hate short 1 player games, but this one is not short. it takes skill. you have to hide in cover place snipes well, and carry out deadly mission of complete suicide.
Oh and goodbye bayonet, say hello to mr. chainsaw!!.

Overall:great game great graphics. Though online if you die in a match you dont respawn like on halo. you have to watch your teamates kill via camera. anyway this is a must buy. also its third person

5 out of 5 stars top notch   April 11, 2008
I'm typically not a fan of 3rd person shooters, rented it a couple months ago and returned it after about 20 minutes. Then recently developed an interest in it and bought it somehow knowing that I would love it, and I indeed cannot stop playing this game.

pros-
The detail is awesome, and the world is beautifully crafted. Scary enemies. The controls are simple. Action is great. Weapons are great. Interesting story. Co-op is awesome, full split widescreen (not like halo3). Interesting puzzles break up the monotony/ linear design. Realistic AI, they duck, hide, charge, advance, jump, cover. The game is very original, its like nothing I have played before.

cons-
Wait and watch the intro. The game just starts without any background. Just wait on the main screen and after a couple minutes watch the video about what happened to this world. Teammate quirks-sometimes your teammate Dom will get hung up on something and he wont proceed further. You end up fighting by yourself wondering where your partner is. If there is a straight line to walk, open area, teammate AI's will jump over everything, even if its not in the way. It causes them to grunt and groan thinking there is a monster behind you. The command button to give your teammates orders DOES NOT WORK! Sometimes they proceed to run into the heat of the battle, get killed and then you have to go after them and save them. Try and prevent them from rushing by commanding them to regroup, sometimes they obey, other time it's "No can do!" frustrating.
This one map Dom kept walking out in the open and would killed by the bat things and I would have to start 10 minutes back at the last checkpoint. Sux. NO MANUAL SAVES, just auto saves.
Very linear. The paths are obvious, leading to set-up battle areas. The gameplay is long, although the plot does not seem to thicken.

The action, originality, and AI are so awesome that every con I've listed is minuscule to the Pro's. Can't wait for GOW 2.

3 out of 5 stars Had higher expectations   April 10, 2008

I got a 360 just recently so this game has been out for a while. Game play is fun enough, graphics are average/good for the system. Not nearly as fun as the newer games like Army of Two, which became my favorite game since Halo 1 first came out.
