OMG. HL2 all over again May 30, 2008 27 out of 40 found this review helpful
Thanks for the heads up. I was just getting ready to buy this game until I began reading some of the reviews. Sounds like HL2 all over again. Even to this day I have problems playing it even in offline mode. For a week or 2 I got the message "Game is not available. Please check back later" even in offline mode. Maybe it was sunspots. Anyway I foresee even more problems playing this game. Sad that in there greedy attempt to make sure somebody doesn't steal a penney from them bioware and ea may lose a bundle on this game. Sad that those of us who purchase games have to pay for the inconvenience also. It was a sad day when EA purchased Bioware and Obsidian. Guess now were starting to see the results.
Can you activate in 2017? May 29, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game comes with three activations via the internet. I still play Planescape: Torment which was published in 1999 (9 years ago). Will you be allowed to activate Mass Effect in 2017 (9 years from now)? This system is more about limiting your ability to resell the game you purchased than preventing piracy.
Possibly the best RPG of all time, final copy protection not bad May 29, 2008 12 out of 44 found this review helpful
Mass effect is amazing in it's depth and breadth. The Sci-Fi RPG universe created draws you in and grabs hold of not just your mind but your heart as well. Also, the final as-released copy protections are very reasonable, not bad or demonic at all, such as all those stupid 1-star reviews PREVIOUS TO THE RELEASE claim. Ignore those reviews, and realize that this game is fully worthy of 5-stars, as most of us rate it who have actually played it.
I Haven't Purchased It Yet.... May 29, 2008 12 out of 72 found this review helpful
...but that won't stop me from awarding it a perfect "5". If Amazon allows folks to trash this game sight unseen, well then I can do the opposite.
And you know, Bioshock had a bunch of in-your-face reviewers try and harm the average score by complaining about the copy protection as well. Get over it and buy and play these 2 wonderful games. ( I imagine they are wonderful; remember, I'm reviewing the game without ever playing it.)
Let the comments begin....

Well I picked up MEPC yesterday(5/28) from Gamestop although I was a little worried about the install process and security measures. Regardless of having Dial-Up internet the game installed without problems. I then disconnected from the connection, took out the ME disc and the game launched fine and I was off to playing. I have only played a few hours of the game(reason for the 4 of 5 stars), but so far it has been a great experience. The visuals look very decent and it runs fine on a pc that I personally built for less than $500. Even with the lack of extreme hardware I haven't experienced a load time of more than 5 or 6 seconds, and they are often less than that. I do not own a 360 and have not played the game on the console so I don't have a good basis for comparison between the xbox and the pc. However, one could easily believe that this was a made for pc game if they have not experienced the console version of it. The interfaces and controls all seem to work great to me and so far I have only seen 1 or 2 minor visual glitches or bugs in the cutscenes of the game. Overall the game is fun and enjoyable based on what I have experienced so far and I believe it was worth the money. But one must remember that down the line somewhere when I run into limited install issues my opinion might change.
