5 out of 5 stars Gaming for Grownups   July 16, 2008

This system is a fantastic deal JUST for the Blu-Ray player alone, and it's like getting a free next gen gaming console for free. It is vastly powerful, incredibly reliable, and has enormous potential- more than any other system. If you want a system that is going to last you for years to come for both movies and for games, you can't beat the PS3. If don't plan to utilize the Blu-Ray, the XBOX 360 should be a consideration of yours, but keep in mind- its high failure rate has caused a lot of headaches for a lot of people, and its hardware is likely to be outdated before the Playstation's is.

One thing I will mention- Netflix now offers Blu-Ray disks as part of a regular subscription, so if you're worried about paying for expensive rentals at the video store, or buying $25 movies, don't sweat it- $9 a month gets you a ton of Blu-Ray entertainment.

5 out of 5 stars big question   July 16, 2008

why does anyone complain about how much noise a ps3 makes???? if you play a game on it, then raise the volume. if you are watching a movie, Raise the volume. if its late at night and you cant raise the volume then use some head phones and stop whining about this console. i think its worth buying this over the 30 because its doesnt over heat, you'll never need to worry about te rings of death, it has blue ray, wireless internet, and the graphics are better than the 360, my ps3 never froze or crashed like the famous 360 does. with that said plain and simple, make up your mind and buy the ps3. nuff said.

5 out of 5 stars My Pick of the Next Gen. Systems   July 14, 2008

The quality is great, you can play Blu Ray DVDs (now the official high def. format), the outward aesthetic is incomparable, and it's the best system for adventure, racing, etc. games. There are only a few non-multi-platform games I like, and most of the ones I do like are on the PS3.
It's a great system even though it gets some bad hype.
I only have a few problems with it. For one, it doesn't play PS2 and PS1 games. Backwards compatability was practically invented by Playstation, how can they not make this system the same way? Of course, some of the earlier editions, like the 60 GB had some backwards compatability, but even then, it didn't play every game. Then there's no vibration in the Sixaxis (though you can buy the new Dualshock extra), the controller that comes with the system... Though, I do like that it's lightweight.

In the end though, it's all about what you're into. If you're looking to play games like Halo 3 and Gears of War, go with the 360. I prefer stuff like Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo, etc.

5 out of 5 stars PS3 40 gig   July 12, 2008

I purchased a 40 gig ps3 along with the 80 gig so one could be the main blu-ray player, and one just for gaming in my room. First I want to say if you are looking into a next gen console I think the ps3 is the way to go for many reasons.
-The games are fun and origional, with more games for hardcore gamers coming out like socom(32 online) with clan tournaments around the world, and resistance 2(60 player online), and fun games for everyone like ratchet and clank out now and little big planet coming in october.
-Sony is going to put out a more quality network with amazing features like Home. The psn is getting bett er with update 2.41, it's on par with XBL about and it's freeeee!
-The cell processor makes games bigger and better! Ray Tracing (real time reflecting and refracting of light) is somthing only the cell processor can do and it makes games come to life(such as in gran turismo 5), and developers are using parallel processing to make HUGE games like in resistance 2, and they have only began to tap into it's power.
-You get an entire entertainment system along with an amazing game console. The ps3 has a blu-ray player, wi-fi, hdmi 1.3, web surfing capabilities(although not as good as surfing the net on a comp, it is still the real deal, I was watching you tube videos great on the ps3 the other day), and the ps3 and psn have the best games IMO.
-the controller is the six axis and re-done classic duel shock, the vibrations in the duel shock are so amazing, if a bomb goes off far away the contoller mimics how the ground would shake a little, and everyone I have talked to prefers it over the 360 controller for comfort and design.
-The hard drive can be upgraded to any laptop hard drive you find, I found a 300 gig on tiger direct for 80 bucks! It's very easy to make it your boot drive for the ps3, the ps3 owners manual and some you tube videos show you how, ps3's competitor only has one uprgade, a 120 gig microsoft hard drive.

!!KEEP IN MIND!! the 40 gig is not backwards compatible for ps2 and ps1 games, also no ps3 memory card slot. But if you want the ps3 experience for 100 dollars less, get the 40 gig. If you don't mind paying 100 dollars more, then you get the ps3, metal gear solid 4, and a duel shock 3 controller, which is in my mind the best controller ever made by man.
