3 out of 5 stars not quite there yet   November 3, 2008
the game is pretty fun when you play the demo but actually playing the demo gives you a full taste of the game making it a product not worthy of buying.

3 out of 5 stars Feels dumbed-down, Disappointed after hype   October 28, 2008
I've never played a Civilization simulation game before, but this one did not impress me much. Perhaps I prefer real-time versus turn-based strategy games, but after years of reading about how great Sid Meier's "Civ" games are, this one felt like a lot must have been left out. It seems like it must be dumbed down -- a lite version for the hand-held controller crowd. On the PS3 the animations were okay, but a little choppy, and certainly not something I'd show someone to showcase the PS3's power. A lot of animated advisers and adversaries pop up repetitively and have little or no purpose attached to the actual game play. (Condoleeza Rice? Even as a mumbling cartoon, yick.) The best animation was for the nuclear missiles. Moving around the map and selecting characters is clunky. I don't know ... it just wasn't what I expected as far as power and intricacy. I've played it several times over the last 4 days, and I'm ready to sell it for something a lot more engaging. I get so addicted to real-time strategy games on the PC: I had expected more zip, pow, and zing on the console games, but this one like so many others is just so-so. I'm glad that someone has made something for the consoles that is not just a button-masher though. Please keep trying!

2 out of 5 stars !!WARNING to potential buyers!!   October 27, 2008
Flat our the poorest delivery of a "final" retail product I have ever seen. The game has a multitude of bugs both single player and mutliplayer. Online gaming does not function very well if at all. Single player has intermittent glitches that ruin gameplay if not reset the game. That aside, and thats a big thing to put aside, the game itself would be pretty decent. To date 10.27.08, no patch has been released to fix these problems.

I addition the company is releasing additional content for fees to add feature to the game such as more wonders and different scenarios, before the game is fixed. Arguable content that should have already been in the original game considering the core game is not very deep and may get boring very quickly only after a few days of gameplay.

"Over the past few weeks it's come to our attention that many of our fans are having multiplayer problems with the PlayStation 3 version of Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution. While these problems did not present themselves during our QA process, or during certification with Sony, there is no doubt that they exist, and are a cause of frustration in the fan community.

To those who are having problems, please accept our sincerest apologies, and know that our team will be working with Sony and GameSpy to correct these issues as quickly as possible, because as it stands now, the multiplayer errors are unacceptable.

Thank you so much for your continued feedback, and we'll keep you updated as we make progress towards a solution.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY FOR PS3   October 21, 2008

The PS3 version of this game sucks. It has bugs. I once sent an army of spies to attack a city and the battle animation went on forever until I rebooted the game. That is UNACCEPTABLE for a $60 game. The 3D characters are slow to load. That is unacceptable for a modern console game. Every time I attack with a bomber the animation starts getting choppy and screws up. There's another good review on here that talks about the PS3 support. Once again, another PS3 port is awful. Sony is so getting dreamcasted by Microsoft.

As far as the game goes, it's OK I guess, kind of a "baby" civ. If you've never played a Civ game before I could see you enjoying it. I've played it for a couple of days and I'm already tired of it. This one is going to Ebay soon.

Oh well. Better luck next time Sid.

Why is it that increase in difficulty equals AI opponents who are unrelenting homocial maniacs? While all other games in this genre seem to also have this problem, I'm not going to quit complaining about it. Looking at the news maybe it is indeed realistic. I'm not sure what a test of skill this game is but it's been fun to play through for the last week or so. I consider that a good 'hours of entertainment/dollar' ratio.
