Fun -stress relief June 13, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Worried about gas going over $4 a gallon, then have the hulk pound all the cars into scrap metal. The mortgage crisis have you down? Have the hulk smash every building in the whole city to rubble!
The hulk is a priceless way to ease your mind and release stress.Who doesn't like beating up helpless civilians then tossing them a mile into the sky or in a lake.
This in my opinion is the best hulk game ever. Even better than ultimate destruction.
The graphics look awesome. The models look very detailed and the textures look sharp and vibrant. The city really feels alive, from the cars and trucks driving around on their waypoints to the pedestrians walking along the city streets. To take the immersion up a notch, vehicles will actually hit reverse or turn sharply to avoid the big green dude.
Theres plenty to do in this city, from random encounters with squads of enclave that shoot at civilians and blow up buildings or the boss villians that appear randomly, to smashing cars, beating up civilians, destroying buildings or if your threat level gets too high even crushing tanks or fighting the Kyklops which is a robot taller than a building that will stomp the hulk with his foot. Then theres the twisted crazy taxi mini-game where the hulk carries taxi cabs to their destinations!
The game makes great use of the havok physics engine, EVERYTHING can be damaged or destroyed in ultra cool fashion and most debris can be used by the hulk as some kind of weapon. A good example is when Ironclad picks up a car and pummels it over the hulks head! Something I never grow tired of doing is throwing cars into the side of buildings and watching it become lodged there.
This game has a highly detailed, beautiful open-ended city to completely destroy.Plenty of extra's like different skins and mini games to unlock. Many villians like the enclave, u-foes, military, mechs, robots to fight just to name a few, the action never ends...
If you like destruction then this game's for you.
AVOID THIS GAME LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! June 10, 2008 2 out of 9 found this review helpful
If any of you have wondered if this game is worth buying, don't wonder any more! AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! Especially if you've played The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction which was the best Hulk game ever made! You can pick that one up right now for the PS2, Xbox and GameCube.
It's amazing to me that "The Incredible Hulk" copied almost everything from "The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction" but somehow managed to come up with a vastly inferior product. Keep in mind, these games are from completely different developers!! What's that adage about "imitation being the sincerest form of flattery"? However, the Hulk character in the new game is beautifully rendered and it looks realer and more representative of how the Hulk should look, even compared to the newest movie version of him with Ed Norton and Tim Roth... go figure! Why couldn't they use the same guys who made the game to render the CGI Hulk in the movie? The new Hulk doesn't look much better than Ang Lee's version! He still looks goofy as hell, not to mention out of place... but I digress!
The Hulk looking very realistic is great, but why they had to make every other object, individual and building suffer graphically, I have not the slightest clue! However, in regards to gameplay it gets a failing grade! THIS IS A CLEAR EXAMPLE WHERE GRAPHICS DO NOT MAKE THE GAME - GAMEPLAY DOES!!! They replaced the extremely fun action of Hulk running up buildings, even with objects in hand, with the absolutely boring and ridiculous ape-climbing tactics of King Kong, wherein you can't have anything in your hands like cars and buses - Booooo!. Sure, the climbing is a tad more realistic, but fun it is not!!
There are so many more things to do, abilities and combos to unlock in the older "The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction" game that you're spoiled when you play this newer one because you're looking for an extension of that same extremely fun addiction to the wide volume of missions, activities, combos and destruction, only to be vastly disappointed! It makes me seriously want to order the older one for $9.99 even though I completed it twice! It's still an absolute blast, last-gen graphics or not!
To be fair, the newer Hulk game on the Xbox and PS3, The Incredible Hulk, can be fun in that almost every object in the game is destructible, even buildings! So, if you have a fetish for destroying things in gargantuan Hulk fashion, this might be the game for you (no it isn't!). I have to mention that the character voice acting by Ed Norton is so uninspiring that you scarcely notice it's him! Being that I really like him as an actor, it makes me think that voice acting must not be his forte!
