5 out of 5 stars Great Game   July 28, 2008
Katamari is a good series and this title allows you to play it on the xbox. For those of you who havent played previous titles picking this up will be a good thing. First off you will be able to enjoy a game that is unique and addictive. In the process you will be gaining points for your gamerscore, if you care about things like that. Overall it is very entertaining and easy to get into. You will find that the premise of rolling the ball around is much more fun than you think. Adding to the experience are the characters, the KING, being the most enjoyable. Only downside is that it is short and can be beaten very quick.

2 out of 5 stars Squeezing the last drop of profitability out of a future classic   July 28, 2008
Namco must have fired their innovators & replaced them with the laziest programmers on the planet. Beautiful Katamari feels like a quick port to a new platform without much thought or creativity put into the effort. The levels, the graphics, the story; they all seem like contrived reincarnations of what has to be one of the more entertaining game titles in the console world.

I absolutely LOVE Katamari Damacy - it's the only reason my PS2 is still plugged in. This one, however, lost my interest fast. It's difficult to explain, but the magic is gone. The controls are a little more cumbersome, the motion a little more difficult, the graphics seem no better (in fact, they seem a little less interesting for some reason - maybe frame rate? maybe depth blur?), and the experience has not bested its predecessor in any way whatsoever. I would forgive it if it did *anything* better than the original, but it doesn't.

I would only recommend this to people who can't play the original because they don't have an appropriate console; otherwise, it gets a thumbs down from me.

5 out of 5 stars beautiful katamari   July 17, 2008
after a day of dealing with desperate adults who are mean to kids and hurt them this game is a wonderful fun mindless escape which requires only a moderate amount of dexterity. also it is pretty and filled with things that i don't know what they are; and that allows me to be even more mindless. :) love it.

3 out of 5 stars Adorable, but really for a niche audience   July 8, 2008
Beautiful Katamari is a really cute game with bright graphics and droll, sometimes amusingly insulting dialogue. The Japanes lyrics are zippy and interesting. I really wanted to like it. I really wanted to be able to play it, and actually progress in the game without repeating levels over and over and over and over. But, it seems by ability to roll up katamari is very inadequate. Maybe I should have started with the first one in the series, but at this point, I don't think I'll plunk down any appreciable money to get another game like this....

I have to agree with another reviewer that the frame rate sometimes slowing down and getting choppy seems to make a diference, especially when seconds count in the timed trials. It's already not very smooth, and I kept losing my direction, pushing too hard or going in the wrong direction. The controls just didn't seem right. I played over and over and I couldn't really raise my score, and my hands hurt!

My son, who is 12, also had trouble with this game, he has a faster reaction time. He gave up almost immediately, but I persisted, as I was the one who forked out $49.99. Yikes, what a waste of money!

4 out of 5 stars Great fun, if a little repetitive.   July 2, 2008
My family played this game as a demo for about a year on XBLA before I finally decided to get it for my husband's birthday. We have kids that are 3 and 5 years old, and they love playing on XBOX with their daddy. I thought this would be a great game for them to play, as all one does is roll a ball around to collect stuff.

It is truly a hit for the whole family, but can be a little tough for a small person to collect all of the things the game wants you to get before the timer runs out. Daddy has been taking to clear the level for the kids before they play it, just to avoide frustration. Also, if you like rolling a ball around, this game is for you - but that's about it. It is a good game for small people to enjoy, especially if you don't want to expose kids to FPS games.
