We Are Really Enjoying This Game January 19, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
We are really enjoying Cabela's Alaskan Adventure, there are some flaws in some of the programing but mostly it's all good. If you don't have a tag for a certain animal you can only shoot it if it is attacking you, but every now and then it warns you that you can not shoot an animal that had been attacking you. Basically if you don't kill the animal that is attacking on the first shot you can't shoot it again unless it tries to attach you again. We got this game for Christmas 2006 and we are almost finished and have been really enjoying it.

My son is 9 and he loves this game. He has most all of the Cabela's games and this one is one of his favorites.
Interesting Game January 3, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The game itself is interesting, and it's well done. The controls are intuitive, and the overall effect is nice, and I think it drums up interest in hunting, and the outdoors - which, I hope is what Cabelas was trying to do all along, and I am absolutely in favor of that. I'm a lifetime NRA member, and an avid outdoorsman and hunting, and am planning a real Alaskan Peninsula brown bear hunt, so I picked this up just to have a look at it and let my son play it.
The realism leaves something to be desired e.g. I shot a polar bear with a .30-30 in the FOOT from 120 yards away, and it was a 1 shot kill. I haven't had time to really play all the way through it yet, but I do think the game does convey some of the basic thought processes and things to look for or use in hunting - to at least get people somewhat familiar with the concepts. fixed 6x scope, scent-lok clothing, scent eliminator spray, binoculars, being quiet through the woods, stalking things, that sort of thing.
But the actual implementation seems to be somewhat lacking - but it's a sim., so what do you expect trying to reproduce an outdoor hunt from the comfort of your air-conditioned recliner in front of the television. I think the game does good for what it is - and maybe help in some small way, to share that spark of the outdoors with others.
In this age of eye-candy graphics and super-framerates where folks just want to be oooh'd and aaaah'd in front of their TVs. I think this game does an adequate job of representing the animals recognizeably enough and maybe helping to inspire smaller hunters about the fun of stalking and taking game.
Alot of greeat hunting & fishing! December 27, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is all you could want in a wilderness adventure! You can do it all-- hunt, fish, target shoot, sled dog racing, buy a new gun or fishing rod, its as close to the real thing as I have seen. You do have to follow the directions to play the game right, but the time it takes to do this is well spent. Great game!!!
Ask me about Alaskan December 18, 2006 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
The most fun I had with this game was the excitement I had waiting to play it. You start out walking from the lodge, you see a musk ox, you are finally able to get off a shot and the game is over because you fired your gun within fifty feet of the lodge. You try again and walk farther this time when you hear a snarling, growling noise and realize you are being attacked by something because your energy bar is going down. The display says, "You have been killed by a bobcat." I tried this game for over an hour and thats all the farther I got. Oh, once when I was being attacked by something, I started firing blindly and I heard the wolf yelp...never did see it, mind you...and was fined again for shooting too close to the lodge. During the tutorial I once shot a bear and the graphics were awful. Don't waste your money.
