What a geez October 20, 2000 4 out of 13 found this review helpful
I am a novice table tennis paddler and was thrilled when Singapore got in Olympics. However, thisgame as you can call it is bad!
Not worth it! October 9, 2000 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was sorely dissapointed in this game! My son was thrilled with the Olympics and as such, we bought this game to add to our PlayStation library. I wish I hadn't! The graphics are bad and the events are way too difficult! Many events require you to alternately tap two buttons at the same time to make your athlete swim or run -- it is just too hard and becomes very frustrating for adults and kids! We put it away and haven't touched it in weeks. Don't bother!
Good Graphics But Difficult Gameplay September 6, 2000 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
One of the most important elements to a game is its gameplay. There have been games in the past, and I'm sure that we'll see some in the future, where the graphics are not top notch but the gameplay is incredible. For example, if you remember the old NES console you may remember Tecmo Bowl. Not the best graphics in the world, but that game was fun because of its simple gameplay.Where this game falls short is just there. The graphics are realistic enough to build excitement about the Olympics, but the gameplay is horrible. It's way to difficult to alternate finger taps to simulate the different events. I've even tried various turbo-enhanced controllers and even had trouble with the qualifying events. This game may be suitable for more experienced gamers who have had many years of experience with the game controllers, but for the younger crowd, this game is way to difficult. Frustration will settle in immediately. Especially while waiting for the training sessions to load after failing. The wait time can take upto 30 seconds. Then you get to try the training exercise for about 20 seconds. Not much fun there. I recommend looking for a better game. Try Track & Field for the NES. Yeah the graphics aren't as good, but the gameplay is simple and fun!
The Game for the non-olympian in all of us August 30, 2000 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
This game is terrible. The difficulty level of the qualifying stages make it too hard to actually get to the Olympics, and the arcade version is just stupid. Do not waste [the money] on this piece of trash. Heck, if you lived in Australia you might be able to actually see an event for that price. Spend it on the real thing instead of this. The controls are terrible, and you need a strategy guide for sure to have success in this game. Don't buy it. It is a waste.
Real Olympic competition at your finger tips! August 24, 2000 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Beautiful graphics, lifelike athletes, and a great variety of events make this a must have. Like the track classics of the past, some events rely fully on how fast you can hit the buttons without tiring, but along with that, sydney has put some events in that take more time to master. With events like the 100m sprint, hurdles, cycling, lifting, skeet shooting, high jump, triple jump, kyaking, javelin, and hammer throw, it's sure to have something that everyone will like. Unlike the other great track and field games, this one gives you a chance to build up an athlete in certain events, and you can take them through trials and competitions until it is time to compete in the olympics themselves. Amazing graphics and loads of fun. must have for all sports fans.
