1 out of 5 stars Truly AWFUL! Another one for the hall of shame!   December 5, 2001

There's little middle ground when it comes to deciding whats good and whats bad on the PS2 these days. (...) This ones right up there next to Capcom vs SNK2.

Dont buy it. Unless you're under 12. And even then go buy GT3 and grow up frustrated forever!

1 out of 5 stars This game should not have CART in its title.....   October 15, 2001

I was looking for a good CART simulation game that was like I was really racing in a CART race. This game has fantasy tracks and none of the real tracks that CART races on. Plus, there is jumps which a real CART car could not handle. This game is soo unrealistic that is should not even have CART in its title. The only thing that was realistic were the names of the drivers. That was it. I have never seen a CART race with as much crashing this one has and you can never keep up with the other cars unless they do crash and you use your so-called boost. This game is only for those looking to crash. There is no skilled required for this game. Not recommended for CART fans or even fans of serious racing games. It makes Mario Cart look good.

Midway has taken an ultra precise and often boring form of racing_Indy cart_and turned it inside out.Real physics are out the window:The cars powerslide, launch airborne, and in general behave like those in daytona USA.Sounds like a blast right?Wekk,it is and it isn't.If you're simply looking for the home version of CART fury you're in luck_byt beyond that simple order, things slow down a little. The additional Sim mode gives you adjustment options{wing angle, tire pressure.etc.}and a few other real racing features, but tweak as you might, it's still an arcade racer.Itseems like the absence of the speed burst is the only real difference from the standard game. The mini games are equally so-so.Challenges like follow the line, block your opponent and last man standing are only a few degrees different than an actual race.On the other hand,Lock on lets you shoot missiles at rival cars_that's a step in the right direction at least. In general,CART fury is a decent game but doesn't quite turn the corner to greatness.Maybe if the tracks were more dynamic with hills and valleys {come on, it's arcadey anyway}and featured more interesting shortcuts, or if there were more turbo boost power-ups....One thing is for sure_despite the landslide of loading screens, two player is the way to play. It's fast, the AI cars still race along, and most importantly it's competitive.Still.Try this one before you plunk down the big bucks.

2 out of 5 stars Frustrating Game   August 28, 2001
This game started out fun enough. It was only my second racing game (the first being Moto GP) and I thought I was missing something. It turns out that it was the game that was missing something. The earlier tracks are easy enough but as you go up they become increasingly difficult until there is little more involved then sheer luck and even that doesn't work. Cars crash and this is about the only way you can move up in the posistions. There are only a few songs and they rapidly become annoying. The effects are nothing special and the cars fly apart in large chunks, all in all it's not very thrilling. The hidden bonus cars are fairly ridiculious and a few even make it difficult to drive because you can't see the track as they are so big, there's actually a car in the shape of a big spider (legs and all). This was a pretty disappointing game.

Wow,I rented this game and I still fell like I was taken. The concept, the gameplay and the graphics were awful.I could not believe that CART alowed such a game to bear it's name in despite of a alrady lackluster image the racing league has and this game does not help to improve that image. I keep waiting for someone to make an open-wheel racing game that is in league with Gran Turismo, but it seems I will have to wait a little longer.
