3 out of 5 stars Doesnt Really Work...   August 6, 2006
 1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This item I boiught for my PS1 games (Digimon and Monster Rancher 1) because cheats I think are so much fun to use. It wont work on the new mini PS2's which I think stinks becasue it is said it will work on all Playstation models so i advise you to ignore buying this if u have a new miniPS2. Also it works very slow and takes a loarge amount of time to even start the game and put in the cheats.

5 out of 5 stars gameshark   May 18, 2006

though finding codes for this old disc is only by 3rd party sites, (interact sold the rights of gameshark to madcatz and they droppped all products made by interact before a certain year) it works great!i have not yet received mine because its still in the mail but i had one about a year ago that my dog broke so i ordered this one. it comes pre-loaded with tons of codes for alot of games. people complain about freezing, this is inevitable when you stuff in codes made by people, not 3rd party sites. to find codes for games try searching through gamefaqs.com they have f.a.q.'s made by people along time ago which alot of the ps1 games section has gameshark codes faqs.

This gameshark sucks. I bought it recently to finally be able to beat Chrono Cross, hoping to finish a hard game. It freezes before it even gets to the main menu screen on a PS2. Where I bought it from said it would work on a PS2 console, which it clearly does not. Also, don't bother looking for any new (any PS1 game past 1999) game codes because it does not have new game's codes. And the official website? Worthless.

3 out of 5 stars OK but could really use improvement   June 14, 2005

Problems with the Gameshark:

1. When downloading new codes, only about 30 games are listed, but on their web site thousands of codes are listed. Why should I spend a half hour with their awkward code-entering system when I paid to be able to download new codes?

2. Many codes do not work in combination with other codes, but there's no way to know which ones will work with which others until you try them and the game won't load.

3. Their web site http://www.gameshark.com/ is the slowest I've seen in years.

4. As I write this, their forums have been down for days. The message is "Sorry, the forums are presently closed for maintenance. Please check back again later." What kind of maintenance takes days, and why don't they say when the maintenance is supposed to be finished so I don't have to keep checking back on their forums page only to be greeted with this frustrating and uninformative message?

5. The disk seems to be poor quality. It sometimes takes about two minutes to load, and it occasionally makes a humming or sort of buzzing sound like it's not balanced well.

Pluses:

1. When the codes work, they are a real Godsend. For example if you want to play Final Fantasy X without having to spend 40 hours mindlessly fighting random battles and leveling up, you can do it with Gameshark.

2. The forums on their web site, when they are up, are a great place for troubleshooting information.

3. They do have codes for a LOT of games on their web site.

Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, but I do think the company needs to work on the issues I mentioned above.

1 out of 5 stars OLD GAME CODES ARE USELESS!!!   December 5, 2002

These game codes are from 1999, and ANY or ALL games made AFTER 1999, aren't on this Gameshark!!! DON"T BUY THIS GAMESHARK for the price. The 2002 Gameshark is 5.0 {up to date}. This Gameshark is 3.0 , USELESS!!! { the 3.0 etc. is on the back of the box , on a white sticker}
