Decent but below potential May 12, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I expected much more. I played this just after Summoner2. The graphics in Baldur's gate were much less attractive, and the product felt a little canned due to the lack of choices in the game. The zoom-in map feature was good, but it was annoying that it couldn't be panned. The storyline was fine. Overall a mediocre experience.
The game that reintroduced me to games. Love it! February 24, 2006 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I was a kid I loved Wonder Boy on my Sega Genesis. But then I got out of video games completely. But then The Boyfriend suggested that we play together, and he said that if I liked Wonder Boy, I'd probably like Gauntlet and Baldur's Gate. We played Gauntlet first, and then this - what a delight! The graphics are amazing, the music is sublime, and the plot and storyline are both really interesting. It seems like, according to the reviews, the folks who played this on the pc are disappointed in it. Maybe I would have been, too, but since I never played it on a computer I guess ignorance is bliss, because I loved this game.
I liked the strategy and having to think about what weapons to use on each type of enemy. I've played the second one as well, which has even more customizations and chances to create weapons, which is great. It's especially fun to play this game with someone - I think I might have been bored sometimes playing it by myself.
Overall, it's a great game, though, especially for people new to games.
What a Blast January 24, 2006 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
My husband and I just finished playing Dark Alliance in cooperative mode. We had a blast playing this game. The graphics are excellent, the storyline intriguing and the interface is easy to use. In fact, we liked it so much, we're buying Dark Alliance 2 today!
A fun way to spend some time when you don't want to think October 23, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am a huge fan of the Baldur's Gate/PS: Torment/Fallout games on the PC. I picked up this game thinking I'd have zaney NPC's coming along with me on some huge adventure full of sidequests and crazy fun. When I first started, I was impressed with the graphics and sound, and it seemed rather promising with the characters too. As the game progressed, I quickly found out that it was essentially a Diablo clone (i.e., a massive dungeon crawl). You hack and slash through level upon beautifully-rendered-level, all the while taking trips back to the local store (with your recall potions) to drop off your loot and upgrade your equipment. The sidequests usually involve you talking to someone near the local store, finding the item they are looking for, and returning it to them. Over all, the character interaction is a bare minimum, and the story is rather stretched. Before you know it, the game is over, and you import your character into a harder mode and do it all over (replay value is better with friends around). Pick this up if you want a fun way to kill a couple of hours with some friends (or by yourself). Just don't hope for the traditional BG gaming style and you'll be OK.
If You Liked Diablo You'll Love This Game! May 11, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have never sat down and played a Dungeons and Dragons game, my boyfriend is in to it so I get the jist of things. This game touches mildly on Dungeons and Dragons and is more of a Diablo style game. You go through a story, battle various types of creatures and enter odd lands.
It was good to see different types of creatures to fight and not the same thing over and over in each land you went through. I felt as though customizing your character to wear what she or he wanted was fantastic.
The only down side to this game it was a little short and I felt as though the graphics and camera angles could have been better. I felt as though being able to head to a store when ever you wanted to should have been in play through the whole game. It was rather a disappointment entering the tower only to find you could not teleport back to a store to sell or make new purchases. The armor in this game should have been a bit broader in many aspects thus making me feel as though my character couldn't keep getting better.
All in All if you liked Diablo you'll love this game it is very similar to it. Aside from my small complaints I give this game major props. I am looking forward to playing the second one and I hope that all the small issues I disliked about the game are better in the second one.
