Greatest gladiator game ever December 21, 2006 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I first got the game I thought it would suck, plus, the price of the game was only 20 bucks. I started and I was amazed by the ways you could slaughter your opponents. I've beaten the game 10 times and I feel like it gets better everytime. Just one thing makes me mad. I can't beat all of the salvo list. I try and try but, I just can't do it.
Great game, despite the insipid end December 19, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a history lover and assiduous reader of the deeds and registries of acient kingdoms and empires, i couldn't feel less than attracted to play a game which sunks you into the experience of surviving the last days of the Republican era in ancient Rome. Undertaking the role of a coarse Roman centurion, Agrippa, and his feeble friend Octavianus, whom is indeed no less than Caesar's nephew, the original story behind Caesar's assasination is cleverly modified, and re-told in the eyes of these two characters. The game delivers hours of thrilling action, backdoor conspiracy and Arena bloodshed, bringing some of the crudest graphics i've ever seen; and capcom makes the whole playing experience so incredibly engaging, despite the violence, that once you grab the control and enter the Circus Arena you just can't stop slicing, riping, etc. etc.....God thanks it's just a game! is hard to imagine that something like that could ever happen in behalf of merely crowd amusement. But it happened, and probably worse than that. The graphics are great, amazing, the custome design, everything...is like if you were indeed living in such a time. Well, the end..what can be said about the end...errrr...after days and days of gore and bloodbaths, following clues and hidding like a rabbit, you came into an end like this......it's the weakest part of the game, they failed to give this story a more out-of-the-common end. But the playing experience worths the hassle, and the dissapointment henceforth.
as good as rome gets November 5, 2006 really good game, takes liberties with time period but overall very fun
There's no doubt the game is fun and challenging but... November 4, 2006 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
It probably should be banned for violence.. Cutting off arms, heads, bone crushing ect.. In a strange way it is educational of Rome and the old Empire.. The game engine is very good as the characters are very well simulated.. The history lessons are good but it's a little bit twisted and one-sided but an intelligent enough person can dig a little deeper to find truths.. Interestingly these characters existed and you can look them up too.. Being Dutch I understand in that era my kind was a hated enemy of Rome so I look at the history of it from a different angle and notice the bits and pieces of history they choose to leave out completly like what really happened between Germanic and Roman tribes.. You know what happened the Roman way was to treat others like animals and reward (elitism) those that supported the Roman Empire.. With that said it does have alot of action which is interupted by journeys (sometimes boring) you have to take to get trough to the end.. I tried to complete it without getting tips but it is virturally impossible.. So there you have it a 3 star game.. See ya!
There's a difference between challenging and difficult.... September 10, 2006 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
This game looks and plays great. Unfortunately, the people who made this game don't seem to realize that video games are supposed to be entertaining and not frustrating. I beat the game in "normal" difficulty but there were lots of struggles (and cursing) along the way. I would give this game a higher rating if not for the cheap diffulty level. If I wanted to test my skills by fighting hard battles, I'd choose "hard mode". That's the reason why some games allow you to choose the level of difficulty. The "normal mode" in this one, however is like "extreme" in most other games. I don't think I would want to try the "extreme mode" or even the "hard mode" on this one. Don't buy if you don't have alot of patience! The only thing that kept me trying to beat this game was the story, which I should say was pretty good.
